Buoyed by the success of its Bold Street, Liverpool venture, Bakchich is hopping over to Manchester’s city centre to shake some loose change out of the pockets of Mancunian Lebanese street food fans. This isn’t rampant, unchecked capitalism at work, mind; Bakchich is Arabic for loose change, and owner Otto Mellouki explains that what he aims to do at his new site at the Quadrangle on Chester Street is offer exotic food that’s accessible and affordable, and that is above all very, very tasty. Here, diners can enjoy the colour and flavour of Lebanese cuisine without breaking the bank. Maybe just the piggy bank.

Sticking out like a sore thumb from the glut of lesser Middle Eastern eateries that clog Manchester’s arteries, Bakchich is a new breed of Lebanese restaurant that is effortlessly on-trend in terms of look, vibe, and the fine food on offer. Siting Bakchich at the Quadrangle on Chester Street was a genius move (as was opening its Liverpudlian elder sister on Bold Street); Bakchich’s city centre location means thousands of diners are going to come away not only smiling and sated but also educated – eating here is a lesson in the riches of Middle Eastern and Lebanese culinary culture and hospitality. Open late during the week and later over the weekend, there’s ample opportunity to catch Bakchich in the act.
Workers in Manchester’s city centre (and party animals wandering the streets near the Quadrangle at dawn – why?) will breathe a sigh of relief when they hear that Bakchich is open for breakfast. Breakfast Lebanese style is something that every foodie should indulge in – our pick has to be the classic shakshouka (enquire within), or the Beirut-style omelette (vegetarian, too) with zaatar and Lebanese cheese. Plus, if you’re watching your bakchich levels, hearten to the fact that a full Lebanese or Arabic breakfast will sting you for less than a fiver. Things warm up with hot (and cold) mezze platters that are ideal for sharing with friends, while generous mains like shawarma wraps and platters, traditional charcoal-grilled dishes, and signature Bakchich burgers will satisfy bigger appetites. Unmissable are the house specials like the traditional Middle Eastern rice-dish kabsa with lamb, the vegetarian moussaka and the bourkouri halloumi (a healthy bulgur wheat, courgette, onion, garlic and Lebanese spiced salad with halloumi). Ambitious types should book a day in advance and let Bakchich know that they’re up for the kabsa with a full lamb, marak and a Bakchich salad. Bring a friend.
Great food in a great atmosphere with great friendly service. What more can I say? We will be going back again soon, thanks guys !
Food was delicious and the staff very friendly and courteous. I highly recommend this restaurant if you like to experience middle eastern Lebanese Street food.
Really friendly and welcoming waiting staff - I felt right at home :) The food was delicious and quickly prepared! Will definitely come again. Thanks!
Delicious food, so much choice for vegetarians and lovely welcoming staff. Highly recommended and will definitely be coming back! Thanks for a brilliant family lunch yet again.
I was travelling to Manchester by train from Lancaster to take my 3 nieces, one aged 16, and two of 10 who were travelling from Sheffield by train, to a show. I had booked for us to eat at Bakchich and they were already very helpful for my rather restricted diet. On the day, my journey from Lancaster became a nightmare with delay after delay, train changes galore and rail staff not having sufficient correct information which led to many changes of trains which either didn't leave or broke down! As the time I was supposed to meet my nieces passed and I was still in Preston I was obviously very concerned. Thank goodness for mobile phones! My 16 year old niece was able to locate the restaurant and took the younger ones there for a meal they all voted really delicious. The staff, who I had kept informed about my movements as best I could, were helpful and courteous at all times and were very welcoming to my nieces. Alas, I reached Manchester Oxford Road shortly before the show was due to begin so I missed the lunch I had been looking forward to but I was reassured to know my family were being looked after and had a good meal. I can't wait to go and sample the food myself!
Our first visit to Bakchich and it was an enjoybale one. Very extensive menu with plenty of choices for Mezze / Mains / Specials / Desserts and even Childrens meals. There were 3 in our party and the food, for the most part, was excellent. It was a very busy evening when we were there with a party of 40 being catered for. That probably accounted for the few slight quibbles we had. On the whole the service was good and very attentive although there was a delay in getting our drinks to us at the start. As I`ve said the food good on the whole although the Arabic bread wasn`t fresh , the spinach fatayer needed more flavour and the chips / fries were cold. On the plus side, my meatballs were lovely as were the lamb chops and the salmon that my friends ordered. Will definitely be going back.
We have visited Bakchich in Liverpool a number if times, and always been impressed by the great standard of food and service. The Manchester branch is no exception. The manager was very welcoming and highlighted the different dishes found on the Manchester menu. The food arrived quickly and was the same high standard found at the Liverpool branch. The service was excellent. We will visit again.
I'd been to the Liverpool branch and liked it so was interested to compare Manchester Bakchich; also it's very convenient for the Dancehouse Theatre, where we were going later. Food was generally good, although the green salad and tabouleh were rather roughly chopped. Prices are oddly variable; £5+ for a manaqeesh and £8.95 for a veggie mezze platter seem very steep, but the grills and other mains seem much more reasonable. Lovely muhalabiyyeh for dessert!
Bakchich was a great restaurant. The food was lovely and reasonably priced! The service was excellent, we came early and they seated us immediately and they happily accommodated a request to keep a present for one of the party which they brought out at the end as a surprise! I would recommend it to anyone and will be going back. :)
We weren't sure where to eat on our recent visit to Manchester, and found Bakchich through google. We thought the menu looked interesting and the chance to try Lebanese cuisine was interesting. We weren't disappointed, the food was great, really tasty and lots of it. Would recommend to anyone who is visiting Manchester.
Great food and a very relaxed atmosphere. The perfect place to go for a easy, cheap meal with friends and the prices were exceptionally reasonable. That being said, there are limited vegetarian options, and those that were vegetarian were massively overpriced. We came with a friend who has a nut allergy, and the manager came over to check how severe it was, and while this may have been out of concern, the way everything was said was in the manner of "if you have a reaction, are you going to sue us?" which wasn't too positive. Other than this, fantastic place.
I booked a table here because I love the food at the Liverpool branch but the service tends to be very poor. Sadly... Although when we first arrived, the staff were friendly and attentive, a large party arrived at the same time as we wanted to order our food. There was no one available to take our order then, when a waiter came he didn't actually send the order to the kitchen. We waited 30 minutes before anyone came back to check, when we explained that we were waiting for food and drinks, which it transpired had never been ordered. After that, things were quite efficient and they did compensate us appropriately but it was quite disappointing. A real shame about the service because the food is delicious!
Food 4/5. Service 3/5. Atmosphere 4/5. Minor issues we had: 1) One of our starters was not received but the problem was resolved by friendly staff. 2) I ordered a sweet potato falafel wrap (as a platter), I got the regular falafel wrap which was not a platter. I didn't bother to say anything but I'm sure they would have resolved it. But we were a group of 4 and I didn't fancy waiting for a new meal. 3) When paying the bill, I requested they do not use contactless (to which they acknowledged). However, they used contactless which ruffled my feathers. Overall the food was great and the staff were polite/friendly (however could do with listening more). I would go again. Please consider: Im a grumpy person
The food is really tasty and you get really big portions aswell! Luckily we decided not to opt for a starter which we soon realised was definitely the best course of action because we struggled to finish our HUGE main course. Overall, it's a lovely little place with great food but incredible customer service. The staff are probably the friendliest I've come across in a very long time! Would definitely recommend, and have already told all my friends about it.
Great time, went to Bakchich for my birthday dinner, group of 8. Very nice atmosphere and nicola who served our table was very pleasant. Food was excellent, well presented and good value for money. Enjoyed myself throughly.
Fantastic food, fast and friendly service, brilliant decor and delicious food at reasonable prices. I couldn't ask for anything more in a restaurant experience and will definitely be recommending this to others and hopefully coming back when I next visit Manchester. I've rated the noise as average because there was a lively buzz to the place, but still plenty of opportunity to chat to your dinner companions - just right for me!
The food here was plentiful and very tasty. We had booked the table as we were a party of 6 but on this occasion we could easily have just popped in. We shared 2 meat meze which had lamb and chicken shwarma, kibbeh, falafel , babaganu, humous and salad. Our mains were meat balls, lamb shank, mixed grill and lamb chops, all cooked to perfection! Will definitely visit again.
Bakchich never lets you down! It's a place where you are guaranteed amazing food and great customer service! A place to chill in a great environment! My all time fav Lebanese restaurant
Your food is absolutely lovely,we been in Liverpool one few times before and when we found out that you are in Manchester also we booked the table straight away! Quality food for a brilliant price! Love the deco and very friendly staff! Please open one in Chester and we promise we will visit you at least once a week! Thank you again!
The food price a and quantities were great. We sat at the back of the restaurant this time (7 rather than 2 of us) and the service was a little all over the place. Wrong things delivered, one person left waiting for main quite a while after others, etc. still a nice evening but was a little erratic, felt like because we were at the back had been forgotten about a little
