Darwin is not much further away from Bangkok as it is from Sydney or Melbourne – it’s a thousand kilometres or so more to Thailand, but when you’re already so far away, what’s 1000k between friends? – and so it stands to reason that the standard of Asian and Thai cooking in the city would be very high. Bamboo Lounge on Frances Bay Drive in Stuart Park brings the best of Bangkok and beyond to the Northern Territory, with a menu that features all the big hitters: from satay chicken and fish cakes to start, tom yum and tom kha soup, laksa with noodles, curries of the yellow, red, green and Panang varieties and Pad Thai. From elsewhere in Asia come Indonesian nasi goreng, Nepalese momo dumplings, Malaysian beef rendang and a whole host of others to boot. That distance between Darwin and Southeast Asia just got an awful lot shorter, but they’re still a distance away.
