Thai restaurants in Brisbane are almost universally excellent, but sometimes you need to look beyond the green curry and the spring rolls to get a properly authentic taste of Thailand. There are restaurants that set themselves apart and Be’Tong 888 Thai is certainly is one of them. They’ve got a menu that includes a host of dishes that are rarely found outside of Thailand, including house signatures and regional specialities to savour. They pride themselves on their Sesame Roast Duck, known as bey yang in Thailand, with Chinese kale and rice noodles, on their pak boong fi dang moo krob – a mouthful in more than one way – with the Asian staple of “morning glory” or Thai watercress flash fried with soy bean paste, chillies and crispy pork belly and their Massaman lamb shank with fried potatoes. There are Thai classics too, but if you head to Hercules Street on the banks of the Brisbane River in Hamilton, you’re going to want to go for the lesser known delicacies - book now.

We enjoyed our first meal here. There were a few Thai people dining, which we took as a promising sign re: the food. Entrees (fish cake; satay) came out quick and were tasty. We tried two "specialties" - roast duck & crispy chicken salad. Enjoyed both, but would order curry and noodle instead next time, as these dishes didn't taste particularly amazing or Thai. The duck was cooked well - moist and not too chewy. The sauce just tasted like Peking though. Salad had nice herbs and flavour, but lettuce could have been chopped finer (hard to get on the cutlery!) and dressing was basically goma. Nice, but nothing special. Tea was good, using proper Thai tea mix. The guy serving was prompt and friendly. Prices were good, and some of my staple faves are on the menu, so we'll definitely try take-away. Be sure to request your food hot if that's how you like it though. We found all our dishes very, very mild.
Excellent food and service. The restaurant was neat and tidy and the food was very authentic. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the atmosphere. Loved it.
