Using recipes passed down through the generations in chef Loc Bui’s family, Bistro Saigon offers diners an authentic Vietnamese experience. From its elegant location on Railway Road, Bistro Saigon serves up casual bistro-style cuisine, with lunch and dinner time options. The place to go for pho and other Vietnamese favourites this side of Leeds, to guarantee a table at this charming Ilkley eatery, making a reservation in advance is advised.
Headed by a chef who grew up in Vietnam, you know the food served up here is going to be the real deal, with the authentic cuisine paired with Bistro Saigon’s quaint decor, it’s easy to see why the people of Ilkley – and further afield in the Leeds area – keep coming back for more and more. Kick things off with the pork and vegetable dumplings or the beef and green papaya salad. Then sip on a bowl of piping hot pho, a classic Vietnamese soup made with a mixture of slow-cooked chunks of beef and strips of rare steak, served in a soup stock with vegetables, garlic oil and rice stick noodles.
Or, you could tuck into some Vietnamese pancake, spiced caramel pork, or some crispy mango chicken. Vegetarians will find plenty of choice too, while seafood lovers will be delighted with options like the mango and mooli seabass. Attracting foodies from all over the Leeds area, Bistro Saigon can get busy. Make a reservation and head on over to Railway Road for an authentic Vietnamese feed in Ilkley!
Bistro Saigon should be on everyone’s list of places to eat. The food is sensational and makes you smile, and it does not cost a fortune!
Delicious meal. We had a shared platter for starters and everything was really tasty. I had duck for main courses which was really nice. My personal favourite though is lemongrass chicken which I'll have next time I go!
We had a superb meal tonight - the food was delicious and the service could not have been better. Its always a real treat to eat here.
Love it. Loc's cuisine is incredible. No matter who is on duty that evening, every customer is treated with the care and respect they deserve.
We arrived earlier than our booking time but this created no problem and we were shown to a table straight away. We were given our menus and offered drinks but requested that we give that order with our food order, no pressure was placed on us to choose drinks. We were able to make our choices at our own pace and any questions we raised were answered. Drinks were quickly brought after our order and we did not have long to wait before our starters were brought to us. We had ordered a platter and were clearly told which item was which. Requests for cutlery instead of chopsticks were answered without any fuss and we were able to enjoy the delicious food. Once we had finished our plates were removed and our waiter checked that everything was to our satisfaction. Our main courses arrived after not to long a wait and the food was well presented. Our waiter checked if we had had the choices before and proffered advice on the best way to eat a pancake that had been ordered, advice that was welcomed. The portions were very generous and, again, the food was delicious. We enjoyed our visit to Bistro Saigon from the point of view of service, cost and the meal itself which was of a very high standard. We would visit again in the future.
This was my 2nd visit to this restaurant & it was just as good 2nd time around. The food & wine are superb and the service is efficient, helpful & friendly. I only wish I lived nearer as I'd be a regular but can only visit when on holiday in the area. I love every thing about Bistro Saigon & have already recommended to friends who have also been & concur with all of the above.
We don't live in Ilkley but the south of England, we come a couple of times a year to visit my brother. We now always try to eat out once at bistro Saigon. The food is delicious very fresh and spicy you can taste all the different ingredients. I would recommend the starter selection platter where you select 5 different, I especially love the salt and pepper squid is so tender. I am gluten free, they are very helpful and there is lots of gf choices marked on the menu. As everything is cooked fresh they can leave ingredients out. It always seems to be busy so make sure you book. We prefer not to sit in the basement as a bit hot and noisy. Service as always was excellent.
We booked with friends for an early evening meal, sitting down at our table around 7pm. As usual the staff were friendly and the food was excellent, very tasty and lovely fresh ingredients used. However the service was slow, we waited over an hour for our starter to arrive and part way through our evening meal all the lights were turned up to full brightness, which spoiled the ambience somewhat. We will be back. Bistro Saigon is still one of our favourite restaurants in Ilkley, but we hope that the staff note our comments.
Superb meal last night at Bistro Saigon. I can wholly recommend the chicken satay. Chicken was really nicely cooked. I had the chicken strips with fresh ginger and chillis and that was also beautiful. Nicely spiced without being too powerful. Service was attentive but not over the top which I think is the perfect balance. Great night will definitely go back soon
It is a fantastic place with wonderful meals - all freshly made and beautifully presented. We went to celebrate my son`s 50th Birthday with his wife and family, sister, partner and part of her family plus my hubby and me (Mum and Grandma). The staff always make us welcome, and are especially kind to me as I am disabled and they help me enter the restaurant in my wheelchair. There is plenty of choice - even for those who are vegetarian - from their extensive menu and all is delicious too. A must for those who are wanting something a `little bit different and exciting` for lunch or evening meal, when visiting ILKLEY. Good luck to this restaurant for a very bright future.
