Great service. Warm and relaxed atmosphere and delicious food to suit everyone's palate. Ice cold beer and warm open fire. Would move to North Adelaide just to have it as our local :)
We had a wonderful time. Staff were just attentive enough. We had everything we needed and they were not pushy. The food was magnificent. We had friends from overseas with us and they commended us on the evening and our choice of venue
What first came to my attention was the efficiency of the staff. I was not left standing for any longer than 10-15 seconds at the restaurant entrance before a staff member approached to assist. The ambiance of this hotel is part old style mingled with new style hotel. The rear bar and off seating area with true original fireplaces that used actual wood. Very cosy. The restaurant is great with very well prepared meats at a reasonable cost. Also the hotel accepts the Entertainment Card, which dropped the price of the two meals to one. I had the linguine with crab meat and was delicious. Other half had the steak which was cooked to perfection. At all times the staff was attentive and professional. Very friendly and helpful. All in all, a very good hotel to come and enjoy a fireside drink and then meal.
From the quite suburban back street of the trendy North Adelaide suburb, The British Hotel stands in all its glory, once you walk through the barn style entrance you walk inside to an upmarket pub that oozes style and character of yesteryear. The open fires help put you in the mood and relax with one of the great selections of beers or wine from the extensive menu. The staff and patrons were very friendly, the staff guide you through the menu and offer you the opportunity to cook your steak yourself on the open grill. I let the chef do mine and they got it exactly the way I like it. The entrée platter for two was a great choice, steak was excellent, you will see my friends and I and back at the British!!
The wife and I shared Ribeye Steak and the Blue Swinmer Crab Linguine for dinner at The British Hotel's Pub. As with previous reviews on other sites, the steak was prepared by the kitchen to the appropriate 'done-ness', for which you pay a few dollars more (as opposed to cooking your steaks yourself. The crab linguine was tasty but we differed on our opinions. I felt it was prepared well but my wife felt it was just a slight bit too 'fishy' in taste. On the overall, we felt that the food was good, but that pricing is not very competitive.
We had a fantastic time, the atmosphere in the bear garden/ dinning area was great. The meals far exceeded our expectations - they were delicious!! The staff were super friendly! We will be going back- again & again! Thank you British Hotel for a wonderful night!
The steak was great, And pork was too, No-one used the cook your own BBQ. Kids menu as you'd expect, And garlic bread was cooked perfect. Drink prices surprisingly reasonable, Didn't get dessert for my credit card would've been full. Staff were friendly but overworked, And there's not enough space for waiters and people waiting for a table to lurk. Altogether this visit was nice, Though I'm not convinced it was worth the price.
Great food and wonderful service. It was truly wonderful to be afforded time to eat our entrees without our mains being rushed out whilst still being consuming our entree. Waiter actually took the time to ask when we felt we might be ready for mains - thank you!!! Food truly tasty. Wine list enjoyable. Atmosphere - relaxing.
The best steak in a very long time was the comment from two of our party. The porchetta and salad didn't disappoint either. Even our vegetarian managed a choice of dishes. Her choice of haloumi with lemon and an additional dish of perfectly steamed vegetables meant that everyone had a good meal. The service was prompt and friendly. Well done The British, we will be back.
Have always loved the British. It's rustic charm and unpretentious atmosphere. Food always very good. Last night no exception. All 4 of us at table ordered something different and everyone very happy with thei meal. One of my favourite pubs!
Great service, very obliging staff and interesting menu. Meal was delightful. Atmosphere of the British is always light and airy with a charming touch of history. Will very definitely be going back.
Food was Good, Wait staff was efficient and polite, Monday evening was suitably quiet [there was no unneeded noise] Table set for three was slightly cramped, not sure how four would've managed! Very slightly overpriced!
Great service and food. Very cosy rustic environment. We look forward to our next meal there and cook our own steaks on the open BBQ. Highly recommend the British!
Excellent food in a warm cosy atmosphere. all staff very accommodating. Hit the mark on what we were after for a chilled Sunday evening . will be back.
The meals were amazing & loved the atmosphere. Good location as we staying on Melbourne St & we liked that the meals were different to most hotels
I really enjoyed my visit to The British. The ambience was great even though we had the pub pretty much to ourselves. The wine list was very very good. The food ranged between good and (the mussels) outstanding.
I dined with my daughter using a voucher won through work. We intend on coming with the rest of our family soon. Good family atmosphere.
The British is just a great pub with good food and great staff very much a favourite of mine and a plus is the location
Really lovely evening, sharing my son's birthday with family. Great food. Choices for my vegetarian daughter. Great service. Relaxed, warm space. Thank you for a lovely night. Leah
The service was good but the best was yet to come - the steak was the best I have had for ages. definitely will be back again!
A little noisy however you expect that at a pub. Food was honest and nicely presented. Staff were accomodating and friendly. Food could have been a little warmer. Kangaroo however cooked to perfection.
We all found the evening very enjoyable, with a lovely venue on a cold winters nights and great food and service to round out the evening
Good with meat not good with marinara or curry. Will go back as it has a good atmosphere with friendly staff and easy for parking and prices.
All five in our party rated their food as excellent. Good choice of wines. Overall experience was great. Prices were reasonable and service prompt and pleasant.
Friendly staff and good service. A pub that is that litle bit quirky in a nice way. A great place to eat and enjoy the atmosphere.
Great old world atmosphere. Open fire in two rooms with leather easy chairs. Bright open dining area. Great food and service. Will definately go again
The food was really good! I was a bit disappointed that they ran out of popcorn chicken though :( Staff were really nice and helpful.
Good pub food nice atmospere. I had tea smoked duck which was overcooked but everyone else had nice food especially the pork belly. Will go again to give benefit of doubt
Table available on arrival at designated time. Became rather noisy and difficult to hear our table guests once the room filled with patrons. Meal was well presented and satisfactory.
No table service for drinks or food which works ok but could be more helpful in less busy times given they were standing around chatting to kitchen staff.
Disappointing service, long wait time, average food. That's not why we go out to eat. Would have been able to cook the same quality at home, and it wpuldnt have takeb so long to order
Nice atmosphere but very small with minimal seating available in bar area. Drinks expensive. Meal was nice, chose the Pub Favourites but still relatively pricey.
Meals are at higher end price wise with sides costing extra. Counter service was offhand bordering on rude. Bar service was not much better. Smallish Pork chop on sweet potato mash (soup consistency) was very ordinary. 😔
