Golden Thai on Bernard Street – to the north of Cheltenham, getting towards Moorabbin – have made their name on getting the basics right, with homemade and authentic Thai dishes that evoke both the crowded street food markets of the cities and the misty mountain cooking of the interior. The manager, Jun was previously employed for 14 years iat Chok Dee Thai Restaurant in Bangkok, so she knows a little bit about what she’s doing, and she has built a menu here that puts all of her experience onto the punter’s plate. Take a trip to Highett train station and then wander around to Golden Thai to try it for yourself: just make sure that you book well in advance so you secure your seat at the top table of Thai cooking in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
