Over on Smith Street, stylish industrial decor and an impeccable cocktail list come together to create one of Fitzroy’s hippest hangouts: Habitat Lounge. Make a reservation at this sleek Melbourne bar and beer garden and indulge in their range of experimental cocktails, craft beers and French ciders. Also on the menu is a range of bar food made to be shared – but so delicious that you probably won’t want to.
Fries were precooked and slightly warmed in the oven. Disgusting!!! The gravy that came with the fries was barely warm and had set to a jelly consistency! Really??? Put some effort into it chef. Customers aren't stupid. Nor am I a child to be served warm food. The bacon shards were pre cooked and were cold. They had potential if they had been cooked fresh and served immediately. Pizza was absolutely horrible. We made several selections only to be told they didn't have those ingredients in their kitchen. Finally settled on something we didn't really fancy. The only good thing was our cocktails and even then I was given a strawberry instead of a cherry. Pretty ironic as the cocktail was called cherry on top. There was not a napkin in sight. We used the napkin placed under the fries. We tore it in half and shared it. Given no knives and forks were provided how else were we supposed to eat this horrible meal but with our hands? Napkins would have been appreciated.
Unfortunately pretty dismal service. Upon arrival there was no greeting. The staff member behind the bar did not approach us to let us know it was bar service. We were the only patrons in the venue, therefore there was adequate time to attend to guests. After going up to the bar and asking if there was table service, the answer was a flat no. She did not then ask whether we wanted any food or drinks. Another patron walked in and went straight to the bar and she took their order. We promptly left having received no serveice. No recommendations for this business at all. Poor all around.
Decorated with exposed brickwork and lightboxes filled with illuminated taxidermied moths, this candlelit bar’s interior is both elegant and edgy, attracting Melbourne’s most fashionable. While Habitat Lounge’s aesthetic may drawn in the crowds, the cocktail menu is what really impresses. On the extensive list you will find all of the classics – from Singapore slings to mojitos, together with Habitat Lounge’s own more avant-garde concoctions such as the Tobacco Leaf – tobacco liquor mixed with Monkey Shoulder whisky, and a salted caramel margarita – a blend of Espolon Reposado, caramel and citrus, topped with some homemade salted caramel.
Although the cocktail menu may be the star of the show here, you will also find a range of food made to share. A more gourmet update on typical bar food, you will find dishes such as buffalo wings with a blue cheese sauce, sautéed chorizo and Coney Island chilli fries, alongside a selection of pizzas and desserts. Whether it is for a date or after work drinks in Fitzroy, this trendy Smith Street hangout is a popular choice so book a table in advance!
