Dural might have a pretty small number of restaurants at its disposal, but it’s blessed to have Ironbark Diner in its midst. Tucked into the town centre down Allen Way, just off the Old Northern Road from Sydney and formerly known as Lombardo’s, Ironbark specialises in modern Australian cuisine spread over brunch and tapas and a classically-structured a la carte menu, alongside creative daily specials showcasing the best seasonal produce in the area. A great selection of wines, beer and spirits rounds off this striking, split-level bar and restaurant’s offering. Don’t be misled by its seemingly remote location – plenty of locals and daytripping Sydneysiders make advance bookings for tables here – you should too, especially at peak times!
Architecturally – because setting the scene is important for a truly good restaurant experience – Ironbark Diner is a stunner. Made from actual ironbark and split over two levels near the roundabout down Allen Way in Dural’s shopping precinct, Ironbark Diner is unmissable for its ability to open up both storeys to the sun, its rustic interior and stylish accents. It’s the perfect place to enjoy some of the most delicious modern Australian cuisine this side of Sydney, whether you drop in for a lazy brunch, drinks and tapas, or a full meal.
Ironbark’s wine selection ranks with the best of Sydney city’s enoteca, balancing a range of great Australasian vintages with European varietals plucked from the wineries of France, Italy, and Spain. These pair perfectly with the internationally-inclined tapas on offer – salmon cakes with Thai salsa, lamb chops with harissa and labne for a Middle Eastern and Lebanese vibe, crispy pork belly with kimchi and sofrito rice on the Chinese-Korean tip. Proper meals at Ironbark are unsurprisingly popular among Dural locals, offering superb modern Australian cuisine at great prices, from pork belly with colcannon, baby leek, cauliflower, black pudding and pear jus, to wild mushroom risotto with truffle oil, danish feta and almonds and an absolutely delectable confit duck leg that simply must be tried. With its superlative cuisine complete with impeccable service, it's no wonder Ironbark Diner is such a hit with local foodies – book ahead to be sure of snagging a table!
Wonderful service. Fabulous food. We will certainly be back. There are a few new restaurants in the area, but they don't seem to live up to the hype as much as Ironbark Diner does....10/10
Great date night venue with the tastiest food and nice cocktails. Service was spot on, from the young waitstaff, and the owner himself. Fantastic desserts! Enjoy!
Food was late due to Under staff but every staff was so kind. Would go again. Staff was very helpful and enjoyed the food very much.
Very helpful and friendly host. Also, I asked for something not on the lunch menu, got it delivered and it was delicious! Efficient and lovely atmosphere sitting in the sun outside.
First time here after it being recommended to us. I had looked at the dinner menu online before going and it wasn't the same as what we were offered when we arrived so I was a little apprehensive as the new menu was not as comprehensive as the online one. Saying that, we were all pleasantly surprised when our meals arrived. The quality, freshness and flavours of all meals was divine! I can highly recommend the gnocchi with beef and veal ragu! The restaurant was not at capacity so we were able to sit and enjoy the meal without feeling rushed. Other members of our group had the oysters and salt and pepper prawns for entree which they raved about. Fully licensed so no BYO wine. Staff were very friendly and our waitress was very personable. Made it a fun night. Overall, a great experience with fantastic food! We will be back.
What a wonderful experience we had for lunch with the family. There is a large selection on the menu, something for everyone and the wine selection had both international and national varieties, which I love. As soon as we arrived we felt welcomed and were shown to our table. Given we were there on a very busy day (Father's Day) I was very impressed at how calm and measured all the staff were. They were friendly and consistent with their service for the entire afternoon. We were in no rush and the ambience of the restaurant was perfect, conversations flowed and we weren't in competition with surrounding tables or outside noise. The view from the 1st floor was also spot on looking out to the Blue Mountains. In summary: Location = Perfect, Food = Delicious, Service = Exceptional! We will visit again for sure!
Last night's dinner at Lombardo was tough. I brought my family to celebrate my son's birthday. Unfortunately they are under staff and pressure was a bit much. With so many customer to serve but not a lot of cooks to handle the order. The wait was long and the Manager and the waitresses kept apologising for the delay. We were so hungry waiting. They offered us a free appetiser to compensate for the wait. It was delicious. However twas not enough to fill the hunger and anxiety we were feeling. Food finally came and was good. Except for my rib in bones which was old stock. I guess some days you do get an unpleasant experience. But we will be back to try again. Perhaps next time it is much better service. The Manager did gave us a free dinner voucher to offset the unpleasant experience.
Our breakfast and the coffees were delicious, and we particularly loved the interior design and rustic features at Ironbark Diner. The ambience is very cozy, with lots of natural light and the staff are very friendly. We will definitely be back...
Service was disappointingly ordinary from the minute we walked in. In addition, we were seated at tables abt 10 cms from our neighbours. Too close. Entree of salt and pepper prawns was probably the highlight. Mains - we both chose pork belly - could barely carve through the crackling. Salad which accompanied was delicious. Desserts - choc brownie - dry, drowned in the sauce to try and disguise and white choc cheesecake - pretty flavorless. Needed more rose petal contrast. Both super sweet and we are fond of sweet! Coffees delivered long after desserts finished - very ordinary despite the wait. Pleasant waitress but profusely apologetic for her many mistakes. Wore thin. Overall, average experience for a high end bill. Not really worth it. Sorry.
This place is the primary example of where ambience is key as well as strong customer service from the top. The food here was OK, just OK,. The service from the female waiter was polite and friendly however, the fact that she had a cold and nasty cough was a little off putting. My main issue with this place was the lack of effort and overwhelming sense of disinterest we got from a gentleman who looked to be the owner. my advice is to great customers with a genuine interest on arrival rather than pointing and directing staff from your seat, also be conscious that your customers see you when you pick your teeth, then hand out menu's and deliver dishes. A nice fit out, relevant name and decent food, is not good enough in a suburb with increasing options that have the ambience, genuine service in addition to excellent food. This is the 3rd instance of a restaurant at this location and the 3rd instance of average execution...
