About Jaisalmer Palace Indian Restaurant
Jaisalmer is a city in the north-east of India – a long way from city centre Melbourne – but at the Jaisalmer Palace Indian Restaurant, it doesn’t seem so far. Their menu showcases the finest of the restaurant’s Indian homeland with a focus on vegetables, pulses and legumes which characterise the arid region of Rajasthan. From a location on Bourke St, between Russell and Exhibition, they dole out steaming plates of curry from 11:30 til late, as well as assorted sundries and snacks.

Indian food is popular worldwide, and few regions of India have contributed to the curry canon quite as much as the north-eastern state of Rajasthan. Once home to the Mughals, the ancient kings of India, Rajasthani cuisine reflects this opulent royal heritage, while also integrating the religious traditions of the area, as well as its arid climate. The result is Indian cuisine based on vegan-friendly legumes and veggies, combined with decadent meat dishes. At Jaisalmer Palace Indian Restaurant in Melbourne’s city centre, hungry Victorians can find a feast of flavours for all tastes – and at a reasonable price too.
This Bourke Street-based Indian restaurant prides itself on a menu that is almost 80% vegan and gluten-free, and they actively acknowledge that super-spicy is not for everyone, so they go out of their way to create dishes that everyone can enjoy. That isn’t to say that Jaisalmer Palace Indian Restaurant can’t hit the heights though - their butter chicken and rogan josh pack a punch, and it isn’t for no reason the Melbourne pre-theatre crowd keep stopping off between Russell and Exhibition on their way to a show. As city centre curry houses go, Jaisalmer Palace is up there - so make sure you book a table in advance to secure your place!
Great food. Very friendly service. Looking forward to going back and trying other dishes on the menu. Looking at prices they are very reasonable too.
Very nice and traditional food, friendly, cooperative and understanding service and situated in central CBD location easily accessible by train and/or tram. This was our second visit and will certainly visit again.
Excellent service and a good range of food. We shared three mains between us and they were all delicious. Would recommend to anyone looking for an Indian restaurant in the city
Food is wonderful and the waitress was really nice and helpful. Great value for money with a easy to find location, would recommend a visit.
Friendly staff, good prices, and great food. I have eaten in many Indian restaurants in England, the US, and Israel. Jaisalmer Palace Indian ranks with some of the best I have had.
Really great food and friendly staff. We had both vegetarian and non-vegetarian people and both we very satisfied with the meals that we had. Great service and loved it.
Very pleased with the quality of food and service with very comfortable seating and atmosphere. i would highly recommend this restaurant. My guests also voiced the same opinion
The food was very good and authentic Indian cuisine but on that day service was a little slow. This was apparently due to a staff member being sick. Apart from that it was an enjoyable time and we will go again.
Great little restaurant, friendly service and food was great. Food came out very quickly and price for lunch $12.50 definitely can't complain about that. :)
Excellent food and service. Good authentic menu selection. Very clean and the staff is very friendly! Convenient location and open for dinner on Sunday's. I would certainly visit again.
Good customer service and fast service. Food was good too. Similar to what I would eat in India. Would happily go back there. And very conveniently located.
I was a bit disappointed with my meal this time. The curry was very oily and the Malai Tikka had no flavor. Although the naans (Kashmiri/Garlic) were hot, soft and delicious. I have eaten there before so I wouldn't stop going there yet.
Had a mini banquet groupon deal, great value for money, good food and efficient service, I would definitely go back again, good place for lunch.
a little bit pricey. very salty, not much meat. service sometimes a little slow. food over all good, however they did not have any samosas.
Staff was very friendly. The service was awfully slowly and food was below average, one of the curries that we ordered was way too salty. Disappointed after reading the good reviews about the food on Zomato. Wouldn't be going here again.
