At a refined location on Victoria Avenue, Melbourne’s L’Altro Mondo is taking the city by storm with its traditional Italian specialties, amicable service and exquisite wine list. Found in the Albert Park area, just moments away from South Melbourne beach, the Italian restaurant has become popular with the city’s discerning gourmands and is now one of city’s most respected fine dining establishments. The dishes on offer are seasonal and the menu changes weekly, so be sure to visit often to see what’s new.
Loved this restaurant for the friendly, attentive service with very good food to match. It was as a fantastic Italian experience with a few modern twists. The house made tomato sauce served with the mushroom arancini was superb, I would buy this by the bottle if the chef sold it!! Also loved the crispy tempura prawns (so fresh) with wasabi mayo. My husband had the 24 hr slow cooked beef ribs served with roast potatoes. The meat melted in the mouth and the potatoes were possibly the crispiest ones we have ever had. I chose the ravioli of the day which was Mushroom ravioli with a parmesan cheese sauce. So satisfyingly rich and tasty. We will definitely be back.
Fabulous fresh food as always. Friendly and welcoming, just great all round. We shared the ravoli, which is sublime. Hubby had the succulent lamb ribs and chicken for me. Hard to fault.
Head chef Domenico de Marco is obsessed with quality. Baking all of the restaurant’s breads from scratch and curing the meats himself, he takes his craft very, very seriously. Knowing that, diners can trust that they’ll be served the finest in Italian cuisine. Probably the best way to enjoy dinner at L’Altro Mondo’s Albert Park premises is with one of the five- or eight-course tasting menus, which showcase chef de Marco’s favourite dishes from his repertoire of traditional recipes. With friendly, professional service to boot, you’ll find a dining experience here is indeed one of Melbourne’s most memorable.
Light-filled and elegant, the interior of L’Altro Mondo down Victoria Avenue exudes sophistication. The food is even classier, with options like squid ink scialatielli and poached rainbow trout gracing the menu. Vegetarians are recommended to try the ravioli stuffed with greens and ricotta, served alongside a delicate lemon, herb and butter sauce. If you’re a couple, we recommend you share the slow-cooked lamb leg, a dish meant for two, served with onion pie, greens, yoghurt and spiced lamb jus. L’Altro Mondo’s menu changes with the seasons, so be sure to stop in and see what’s fresh and reserve well in advance to secure a table at this Melbourne favourite.
