The vegan boom has clearly arrived in London, and nowhere is this eco- and animal-friendly trend could hardly be better represented than at Love Gift Vegan Cafe on Brockley Rise. Bringing together a team committed to innovating vegan cooking and a laidback cafe feel with which to sit and spend the day. Food for your mood the team declare, and we’re inclined to agree, this is the kind of healthy, environmentally conscious, ethical food that guests in Honor Oak have been waiting for.
Up until fairly recently, eating out as a vegetarian was a struggle in London. But the turn of the millennium marked a tangible improvement in the veg-friendly options. Yet, eating out as a vegan remained difficult. The past few years, however, have seen a growth in demand, and therefore understanding, for vegan food. In Love Gift Vegan Cafe, down in Honor Oak, the vegan chickens are home to roost, in flamboyant style. Expect great food (and cakes! So many cakes!), drinks and snacks at this Brockley Rise standard bearer for veganism.
There can be no doubt that the vegan boom is reflective of the change in attitudes and aspirations of the millennial generation. In place of high powered jobs and individualism, millennials are proving themselves to be eco-conscious, collectivist and rejecting of the standards set by Gen Y. The vegan movement (and those that follow it partially) expresses much of this. At Love Gift Vegan Cafe, these principles are writ large: the food is simple, vegan (obviously) and affordable. Expect truly good cakes (we have mentioned the cafe, right?), coffee, snacks and more. But above all, expect a sense of community, and people that know an unreasonable amount about the health benefits of every piece of fruit and veg under the sun.
Food for the soul! Lovely staff, lovely atmosphere and great music. Try the Rainbow platter and make sure you look at the beautiful crystals and handmade balms.
Amazing food amazing service can't wait to take my friends, 10 out of 10 highly recommended. Had the large platter and ginger beer staff were amazing
Amazing. Very hospitable. Great vibe filled with love. Awesome desserts and even my meat eating friends were impressed with how delicious vegan food can be.

lovegift vegan is a vegan restaurant based in south east london in forest hill. the food has a caribbean influence and you can tell the love that has gone into the food. you are actually eating the rainbow. the restaurant is small with a few tables and has a nice laid back feel. it’s charming and colourful with lots to look at. it almost felt like we were just at one of our friends places for a meal. we started with homemade ginger beer (£1.50) and a freshly pressed juice (£1.50). for our main meal it was recommended that we tried the ‘rainbow platter’ (£8) which was a mixture of dishes. that night it was mixed salad with dressing, seaweed fritter, red lentil + vegetable dal, fried plantain, callaloo + potato curry in coconut milk, seasoned bulgar and mac + cheese. it was adorably served on a heart shaped plate. for dessert with had vegan wheat free cakes (£3). we tried a banana cake and a vanilla cake. we were told that there wasn’t much left of the vanilla cake left so we were asked if we wanted chocolate too and could have the rest of the vanilla cake for nothing extra. to finish we had chai tea made with coconut milk (£2) which was the perfect way to end the meal. we were also offered free refills too which was so generous. without a doubt this lovegift vegan is amazing value for money especially because you’re getting such wholesome cooked food. it was so nice to see the owner/chef come out and give us the food herself and have a little chat. there are also raw vegan options too. besides dining in, lovegift vegan also offers vegan food workshops and social gatherings. I’ll definitely be going back again.
Great place with friendly vibes and excellent food. I didn't realise that they have a set menu. You can pick from a small (normal size) or a large plate and they add a little bit of everything. Curry, potatoes, salad, frittas...etc. I asked for food with garlic to be left out but there wasn't any anyway. They were happy to accommodate any requests. Dessert was coconut cake with vegan ice-cream or custard - delicious. Recommended!
We went here for mothering Sunday as my wife is trying out veganism. Well worth the journey, really great food and super friendly nice feeling place. Felt like a proper neighbourhood hub. I'm normally more omnivorous but might change if there were more places like this!
So good to have access to such delicious vegan food on your doorstep! I think I will definitely become a regular. Love the idea of the platter where you get to try a little bit of everything on offer that day.
Tucked away in a quiet little enclave, the restaurant had a great, relaxed ambience, friendly service, AMAZINGLY tasty food and was very well priced. We loved it, coming back soon!!
Ginger Bert and a wholesome meal. Friendly staff and a lively organic, dense e strong coffee. I left Love Gift with a big smile and happy feeling... Thanks for a meal and vegan experience.
