Whether you’re looking for a suave, intimate bar for a casual tipple or a hearty, memorable meal calling on flavours from across the globe, Lulo is there to sort you out on Glenferrie Rd, right in the thick of the action in Hawthorn. South American flavours and Spanish staples are in greedy abundance, so the hardest part is choosing what you can fit in during a visit to this Latin jewel in the beating heart of one of Melbourne’s culinary hotspots. That just means you’ll have to come back.
Lulo is the place to go in Hawthorn when enticed by the Latin groove. Starting at the bar (a great idea if this Glenferrie Rd joint is buzzing as usual and tables are hot property), browse the impressive selection of Spanish and South American brews, or indulge in an authentic Brazilian Caprinha cocktail on par with any you’ll find in Melbourne. If you’re not staying for a meal, you can still get a taste of Lulo’s phenomenal food with an array of tasty small plates including Peruvian olives, smoked eggplant empanadas, house-made prawn crackers with succulent chicharron pork, or a slice of Lulo’s own quinoa and farro sourdough bread.
Apologies to anybody who takes off before dinner - but now things get truly exciting in east Melbourne. Amazing South American specialties sizzle on the Lulo grill, from ox tongue and octopus to Scotch fillet and lamb cutlets, all accompanied by mouthwatering Latin condiments. In the unlikely event you need extra sustenance there is grilled corn cob, crispy golden cassava chips, or papas andinas baby roast potatoes to help you along. Not to mention a trio of gorgeous ceviches for a lighter meal, entree, or to refresh your palate before finishing off with coffee and dessert. You won’t believe you’re still in Hawthorn.
There is so much to like about this restaurant. The food and service are spectacular and the corn is an experience not to be missed.
The restaurant was great and dining experience was also very enjoyable as the staff were very friendly and professional. The Colombian based menu was also very satisfying and I'll be happy to visit again.
Overall excellent experience. Serviced by extremely pleasant and knowledgeable staff plus most enjoyable food at reasonable prices. A wonderful evening had by all and will return soon. Thank you.
Nice south american food, friendly service, great location for a chat - not too loud! Used it for business lunch. Thank you very much D
We visited Lulo for the first time last Saturday for dinner. We had Happy Hour cocktails which were delicious. The food and service were great. Would highly recommend Lulo to anyone who enjoys a great night out for around $100 per head.
This was our second visit to Lulo and on the whole it was a pleasurable experience. However we all agreed that both the menu and service was better first time around. Portion sizes were a little underwhelming for the price, particularly the mains and the staff were a little over eager to clear plates that we clearly weren't finished with. Would give it one more try based on our first visit.
Lulo is fantastic value and recommend it to those looking for a fantastic meal out with friends it an intimate dinner with their partner. The food and service is outstanding every time, along with a fantastic (albeit small) selection of beer, wine and spirits.
Both times I've been to Lulo, it's been a wonderful experience. The staff are charming , the food is fabulous and the atmosphere is warm and inviting . Lovely tasting menu enjoyed by all. Loved the ceviche and the green tomato salad !
Lulo has a menu heavily slanted to South American-style Spanish food, having changed its offerings and wine list quite significantly since our last visit. Excellent service, a good selection of dishes and specials and a strong wine list provide for great dining enjoyment.
Fantastic !!! could not fault a thing . Food was delicious , great service , very knowledgeable and helpful staff We just had a really good experience at Lulo's. Will definitely highly recommend and return.
