The Miranda Hotel has navigated the tricky move from Shire pub to modern multi-purpose entertainment, food and drink venue. It’s hit the sweet spot up on The Kingsway, the main drag through Miranda that is where much of the Sutherland Shire come for shopping and a slice of the action to the south of Sydney city, and it manages to house many different zones suited to many different tastes and intentions. The garden courtyard is a lushly-lit oasis back from the buzzing street scattered with bench seating, high tables and colourful stools, and is a much sought-after spot for lunch, dinner and the regular live music that graces the Miranda. If you’re canny enough you can catch a reservation for The Lane, a self-sufficient space with its own entrance that’s ideal for private functions and gatherings. And let’s not forget Carmen’s Nightclub, with a stellar catalogue of Australian and international electronic performers behind the decks and tweaking the gear every Saturday night.

As for the Miranda Hotel’s food, glorious food – this is one south Sydney bar and bistro restaurant that puts a premium on premium ingredients. The kitchen has cultivated close relationships with select suppliers to ensure every dish is pitch perfect. Beef, lamb, poultry and venison is from Origin Meats, seafood is bought from the fish market auctions on behalf of the hotel every day by Demcos Seafoods, seasonal fruit and vegetables are supplied by Select Fresh, and Luxe bakery keeps them in pastries, bread and all that floury goodness. White Horse Coffee’s served all day long, the bistro menu changes every four weeks, keeping pace with the seasons, there’s a (dog-friendly) Hair of the Dog weekend breakfast that’s one for the calendar, you can easily arrange a bespoke canape menu for your special event – there’s even sit-down formal dining and the ‘By Farm & Sea’ banquet menus for a fixed price per head.
