Sprawling around a prime corner spot on Randwick’s main drag, Belmore Road, with its elegant brick panels and wide wooden windows, Pastarika seems to beckon you in with promises of homely comforts evoking the romance of Bella Italia. Go in and this assumption is quickly vindicated by their large selection - and large portions - of pastas, risottos and other Italian favourites. But your attention may be dragged away from Pastarika’s superb Italian fare if you catch a glimpse of this restaurant’s other mouth-watering lunch and dinner dishes going out to hungry customers - how about a house-ground wagyu beef burger, Provence-style slow-cooked lamb shank with truffle mash, or a grilled haloumi and lemon thyme salad? Pastarika has struck a great balance between Italian heritage, global influence and modern Australian cuisine, so there are no excuses for going hungry when in this area around the University of NSW and Randwick Racecourse in southeastern Sydney.
