Where would the people of Beamish be without San Lorenzo? Well, they’d be without some of the best and most humble Italian food in and around Stanley, for a start. This well-loved restaurant is right on Station Road and essential if you’re in this charming part of County Durham. It’s under new management these days and the new team are extremely passionate about service, food and making diners feel at home. San Lorenzo has an early bird menu of outstanding value, a thoughtful main menu as well as one for the kids. San Lorenzo's gets all the simple things bang on, hence it’s popular. Reserve a table now.
We know, we know. When a restaurant comes under new management there’s always a few nerves, from the diners as much as from the new management. Rest assured, however, there’s absolutely no need for pre-meal nerves at San Lorenzo’s — Beamish. Here you’ll find as good an Italian as anywhere in Stanley and it’s excellently located on Station Road in Beamish, just a stone’s throw from the famous open-air Beamish Museum. One of the biggest compliments we can offer the new-look San Lorenzo’s is that regulars who have been dining here for years are still returning – and with even more enthusiasm than they had before – not least because of the relaxing decor and warm service that greets them every time.
The early bird menu is always a win – available until 6pm everyday except Friday and Saturday, when it’s available until 7pm – and diners can select either two or three courses from a condensed menu. The value is unbeatable and you will be satisfied. The main menu offers a great selection of antipasti starters, as well as pizzas baked in a traditional Italian pizza oven and pasta coated in some of the finest sauces in Stanley. A standout from the meat section of the menu is the pollo saltimbocca, chicken breast stuffed with sage and mozzarella, wrapped in parma ham and served with a red wine jus, but there’s plenty more besides. Beamish will continue to love the Italian flavours at San Lorenzo’s, so reserve your table now.
Great atmosphere kids loved making their own pizza. Couldn't be happier. Food was superb . Have been twice now and would highly recommend it to anyone
Amazing. I will be returning and recommending everywhere. Food was great and was nice to not be interrupted in the middle of our meal by staff, they were so polite and chatty, an excellent reflection on the restaurant.
The food was absolutely gorgeous, the service was so quick and got our food straight away, my new favourite restaurant by far I'll definitely be going again!
The manageress could not have done more for us. She was absolutely fantastic with the 2 babies in our party, we were made so welcome. Great service, great food. Highly recommend
Staff were pleasant but at times the service was slow. The food is not quite as good as at the Washington branch where we are regulars but it wasn't at all bad, just not quite as good. eg Bruschetta too heavily loaded - and with a slice of cheese on !? The risotto was very well cooked but a little too salty. Calzone was declared perfect. ther pasta arrabiata was adequately hot but perhaps slightly too large a portion - not something that most people would complain about. This is a restaurant that will probably always prove popular and it deserves to be so but it could perhaps make one or two minor improvements. Keep up the good work
We loved Pepe's and went there least once a month, but they have changed owners. You can no longer get half pasta/pizza and chips so you have a larger meal than you want and have to buy and extra portion for £3. Service is slow and had to ask for extra drinks and the bill. The ham in the carbonara was also chewy and of poor quality. The lasagna was lovely but so hot I couldn't tip it out the dish or eat it without burning myself. Don't think we will be back. And looking at how many tables were taken at 8-9pm Friday night don't think others have had a good meal either.a rev on their site previously had a snotty reply, so if you can't take constructive criticism, good luck staying open!!
I went with my daughter and we had a super meal The very simple sounding caprese as a starter included four different coloured tomatoes. Incredible. The service was top class. The menu enabled gluten free pasta which was important to me as my daughter needs to be gluten free. Our main course was delicious. The experience was very positive.
We booked on line which is an improvement from last time. We arrived on time took 25 minutes to place order which is a bit too long even though there was six of us. Food was very tasty up to usual standard. The restaurant is under new ownership and improvements have been made to the decor and environment which have made a positive impact. Well done everyone
Service was brilliant, the ambiance of the restaurant was great and the food was excellent. Will certainly be back again soon. The one thing I would suggest is maybe a cocktail menu, even just a few and possibly an offer on spirits as they are quite pricey. I would have stayed longer for a few drinks if a bit cheaper or an extended range as suggested.
The menu was a bit basic and had a few of our favourite dishes missing since the new owners took over. Service was pleasant but slow. We had a table booked in for 7:30 and didn't get out the restraunt till 9:45.That was for 5 people eating only a main and 3 having desert. Fine if your not in any hurry. The food was tasty but average and a little overpriced for what you got.
