It’s not easy for cafes, bars and eateries to make a name for themselves among the throb of Chapel Street’s main drag between Prahran and South Yarra stations. Peppan’s, however, have done just that, in a very short amount of time. This cool cafe, just down from the Jam Factory on the corner of Ellis Street, impresses each and every time with their first-class coffee (using Peppan’s own signature blend), excellent service and phenomenal food. It sounds like an easy formula, but few places in Melbourne get all three just right, while also managing great value and generous portion sizes. The staff are friendly but attentive, the space is casual but chic, but the food is the main event – think lamb shoulder on toast with poached eggs and a zesty sauce, a juicy wagyu burger with addictive sweet potato chips, or a wild mushroom risotto with fresh basil, all presented beautifully. Peppan’s is quickly becoming a Chapel Street go-to at all times, so bookings are strongly advisable!
