Further Information

‘It’s all about the pie’ is the motto over at Pie & Ale, where diners can indulge in some of the city’s best traditional British eats, fine craft beers and exotic meats. With two bars offering eight different cask ales from local craft breweries, plus Pie & Ale’s own Yippee Pie Ale, this local establishment offers a cosy rustic setting in which to knock a couple back with good friends and great food. Its location in Manchester’s hip Northern Quarter near the city centre makes it the perfect location for an evening out to remember.

As their motto states, it really is all about pies at Pie & Ale. Some favourites off the food menu here include the steak & yippee ale pie, the hunters pheasant pie, and the expotic game pie, stuffed full of wild boar, venison and pheasant. Vegetarians are also taken care of here and are encouraged to try the vegan white bean, kale and butternut squash pie or the three cheese and ale pie. Aside from pies, Pie & Ale offers up an array of bar snacks like hot buffalo wings and sticky pork bites, as well as desserts such as the decadent dark cherry and pancetta brownie served with vanilla ice cream. Don’t wait any longer to indulge in the city’s finest pies and beer at Pie & Ale, found along Lever Street in the heart of Manchester’s Northern Quarter.

Get food - nice to eat somewhere where there were three different pies I could eating being vegetarian. Great that two of the pies were vegan friendly. Nice choice of beers to have with the food as well. We also had a very nice waitress/bar staff.

This was our first visit to Pie and Ale and we took our daughter and partner there for an early evening meal. The food was really good and I would recommend the steak pie with red cabbage pie topping. The portion sizes were really generous so there was no room for any pudding. There was a good choice of ale and the wine was very reasonably priced. The staff were really friendly and attentive. We will definitely go back and would recommend this restaurant to our friends.

Went to Pie and Ale with a large party, and there was mixed reaction to the food. Some people really enjoyed the meals, but others including myself felt that there wasn't enough content. The pies had little meat in them, and it was only the sauce that provided any flavour. I thought that the portions were also on the small side, particularly given that we want plenty of food to soak up the beer, as that's what the combination of pie and ale is all about, isn't it?

This was my second visit. I had a couple of friends over and thought I'd introduce them to Pie and Ale,they weren't disappointed and really appreciated the selection of beers on offer. Our server was very knowledgeable about the different ales and help us make delicious selections.

Staff were excellent, did all they could to make our experience positive, even seating us in the sister restaurant to ensure we were comfortable as I am on crutches. And the pies are so good that when guests in The Bakerie saw what we had, they were asking how to order them too! Will definitely be going back again

Pie and Ale is my new favourite pie hole. Between us we polished off Kangaroo pie, crocodile pie and chicken and duck pie.....Pietastic. Loved it.

Hearty food and friendly, attentive service. There is plenty of choice on the menu for every diet (vegan, veggie, gluten free) and the menu is well labelled. This was my second visit to Pie & Ale, and I will no doubt be back again when next in Manchester!

Really friendly and knowledgeable staff, and food was excellent, my wife loved the figgy toffee pudding best although there was nothing we didn't like. We aren't snobs but know good food when we see it and this place is a must visit

Nice staff .. Pastry to thick on pies .. Not the cheapest place prefer pieminister for food .. Seating area comfy got a bit too loud as football had finished in the city so all fans landed in here so too rowdy for my 77 year old dad

Good food at a valid price, not too expensive on soft drinks which for my teetotal party of two was a very welcome change. Would almost certainly come again.

Nice relaxed atmosphere with helpful and knowledgeable staff. Good pastry on the pies with tasty fillings and extras. I wouldn't be against putting a bit more inside the pies, but still, good.

Service was great, pies were great, (especially the veggie choices), what wasn't great was the lack of desserts. Not 1 dessert to be found in the entire restaurant. Not ideal for those with a sweet tooth like me.

Pie was very tasty but would have liked a little less pastry, perhaps on the top only. We were there for a late lunch - think it would be a better experience in the evening.

The pies were a disappointment. Good flavour, but pretty short on filling, with too high a ratio of pastry to content. The pastry was too solid. Nice presentation and friendly staff and the ales to choose on tap were good.
