More about Pigro, Ivanhoe

Pigro’s menu – which changes seasonally – starts small, as it should, with plates or highly shareable Mediterranean fare that are ideal with a drink or two drawn from Pigro’s well-stocked cellars. For Melbourne’s seafood fanatics paying a visit to this foodie oasis in Ivanhoe East, Tasmanian crispy skin salmon and whole oven baked flounder swim up against Clarence River school prawns, demonstrating the restaurant’s commitment to properly provenanced produce. Seafood does indeed dominate, as in the seafood linguine and the generous seafood mezze platter with prawns, scallops, beer battered fish, grilled moreton bay bugs, mussels, oysters and salt & pepper calamari.

Deeper into Pigro’s offering, the grillhouse aspect of this prime Melbourne restaurant comes to the fore, with Gippsland grassfed beef steaks given a minimalist and eminently Mediterranean seasoning and going over on the coals. The pasta and risotti are perennially popular among Ivanhoe East locals looking for an authentic Italian fare and Pigro’s kitchen team seek out the very finest produce, fresh herbs and seafoods to make their Italian dishes really pop. A comprehensive kids menu and affordable price tags make Pigro a family-friendly favourite and the place to go for casual dining with some wow factor on Melbourne’s Lower Heidelberg Road.

A big thank you to the staff and management at PIGRO, who were completely wonderful when my mother became unwell and left in an ambulance. The food was great, service was fantastic and we hope to return to relax and enjoy. Thank you. Kim

Couldn’t fault food, staff, service. Started with dips/bread, followed with halloumi. Both starters fresh & delicious. Mains we ordered steak, chilli garlic prawns & gnocchi. Finished off with the creme brûlée. Delicious.

Located in the relatively quiet East Ivanhoe Village, Pigro is a very pleasant establishment to dine in having taken over from Condotti's pizza and pasta venue. Pigro continues to provide pizza and pasta meals and also offers a Wednesday Steak Day with very reasonably priced choices of steak. Our later sitting at 8:15pm was great with attentive waiting staff who provided pleasant and efficient service. I really enjoyed the Pigro potatoes and the sorbet and berries dessert. The coffee was excellent. We even had a good chat with the owner, Matthew. We will definitely continue to enjoy what Pigro has to offer.
