Pigro’s menu – which changes seasonally – starts small, as it should, with plates or highly shareable Mediterranean fare that are ideal with a drink or two drawn from Pigro’s well-stocked cellars. For Melbourne’s seafood fanatics paying a visit to this foodie oasis in Ivanhoe East, Tasmanian crispy skin salmon and whole oven baked flounder swim up against Clarence River school prawns, demonstrating the restaurant’s commitment to properly provenanced produce. Seafood does indeed dominate, as in the seafood linguine and the generous seafood mezze platter with prawns, scallops, beer battered fish, grilled moreton bay bugs, mussels, oysters and salt & pepper calamari.
Deeper into Pigro’s offering, the grillhouse aspect of this prime Melbourne restaurant comes to the fore, with Gippsland grassfed beef steaks given a minimalist and eminently Mediterranean seasoning and going over on the coals. The pasta and risotti are perennially popular among Ivanhoe East locals looking for an authentic Italian fare and Pigro’s kitchen team seek out the very finest produce, fresh herbs and seafoods to make their Italian dishes really pop. A comprehensive kids menu and affordable price tags make Pigro a family-friendly favourite and the place to go for casual dining with some wow factor on Melbourne’s Lower Heidelberg Road.
This restaurant has Excellent Food and Excellent Service I would highly recommend this restaurant now under new ownership Great local restaurant I was very impressed
Great local restaurant. Staff vet warm and welcoming. Cuisine Italian with excellent seafood. Salt and pepper calamari entree excellent, marinara main with plenty of seafood delicious. Sweets a specialty. Loved the crime brûlée! BYO and licensed. Very reasonable prices. Don't miss the steak night at $25 a steak with potatoes and vegetables or salad. Highly recommended.
Beautiful restaurant, amazing decor and great service. Food was rich and fulfilling. This is another great addition to the choice of restaurants in the Ivanhoe area.
Fast and efficient service, food was delicious Beautiful atmosphere with open kitchen Easy to park and I believe pizza is comming soon, great for a catch up for a snack ..
This was our second visit to Pigro. The service was very good. Staff very friendly. We were not happy with our initial table and when we asking to change to another table it was not an issue. The food cannot be faulted and the presentation was excellent. I would have liked another type of fresh fish to be on the menu besides flounder (even though we loved the flounder.) This restaurant was recommend by a friend and we were not disappointed. We will definately be back.
Have had lunch here before and last nights experience didn't disappoint. Vibrant restaurant with an upbeat feel - so lucky we booked as was pretty busy. Great menu and excellent service provided all night. All meals were of high standard (taste/presentation) and couldn't really fault anything - be warned generous portions! As a dessert the 'Pigro Mess' was an inspired concoction. Wine list was a bit limited but those on offer presented a good range and quality. Will continue to include as one of the local restaurants we go out to with friends.
Pigro offers great food and service. The owners are so warm and welcoming and the prices are very reasonable. The kitchen is great to watch as well, with the plating up, being pure theatre. We love Pigro and will be bringing more of our friends here. Thank you. Alan and Libby
The food was tasty, tastes balanced. Ot was simply delicious. Kids and adults enjoyed it. We went to Pigro on a Tuesday. We didn't wait long to be served. The staff is lovely and paying attention to the customers. On the winter school holiday kids ate for free, a good deal! The restaurant is a bit expensive. And it's worth it.
We recently had dinner for four at Pigro June 2017 East Ivanhoe and all four meals were fantastic and the service was excellent. Prices in line with most very good family restaurants. Staff very friendly we did not have to wait for anything and this was our first experience eating there and will certainly go again. Rhonda
What a Gem, this place is fantastic the food was amazing and the service was great will definitely be back well done Pigro. This is now our favourite place to eat quality and service first class.
We were surprised how busy the restaurant was as we had an early booking. There were a couple of large groups, which explained this. This was our second visit, and we enjoyed our meal nearly as much as the first time. The gluten free alternative to Salmon with grain salad, looked like salmon with a risotto - not a great alternative, a bit stodgy. Otherwise good food, very attentive service, and a festive atmosphere! Fascinating watching the two chefs frenetic activity!
Love the energy of Pigro, but disappointed with the wait time for our main meal. Meals were great, really enjoyable, but I hadn’t caught on that there was no vege/salad with the pork. A gentle suggestion from wait staff would have been good. Service very attentive. Would certainly return.
Food was delicious... maybe a little salty- was drinking lots of water. I had the salmon and skin was very crispy. My husband had the scotch fillet and loved it too. Was a little disappointed with the desert - I had chocolate pudding but was very dry and more like chocolate muffin with sauce on top. Friends had the special desert but said it had too much cream & not what it was advertised as. Service was great.
There were four of us and everyone enjoyed our meals. The steaks were perfectly cooked medium rare. The gnocchi was very good. The service was good, not too long to wait for meals. I was pleased that it is BYO as I have a large cellar and prefer to take my own aged and cellared wine. We will certainly go again, probably on the very attractive Wednesday Steak specials night. Pigro is an average local restaurant. Friendly inexperienced staff. The food was ok. I ordered a fillet steak which came out cold. I would Pigro another try because I believe in supporting local restaurants, but only one more try.
We Loved the service and the amazing food They serve The best oysters we've ever had. We have now made Pigro our favorite restaurant in Ivanhoe
Enjoyed our Saturday night at Pigro with great food and service, we have already booked a return visit. Restaurant was very busy, a good sign.
Nice cosy place, service was good with staff being friendly and attentive, food was quite nice, we ordered two entrees and a risotto to share. Overall the food was good, but perhaps on the salty side with the portbello mushroom and the risotto. Otherwise, not a bad way to spend a rainy evening
The service was great and the food was simply incredible. Have to try the Pigro potatos as a side dish. Will be going back again soon.
The food was great, service good and overall we had a lovely night out. A couple of small negatives - the menu selection is limited, although as per above the food we had was delicious. And the chairs are not particularly comfortable if you plan on being there for a while.
