A bar and grillhouse restaurant in the Ivanhoe East village that bridges the divide between simplicity and culinary refinement, Pigro is a family-friendly local restaurant, owned by Nicholas Anassis who comes from a 3rd generation seafood wholesaler family legacy stretching back to 1958, and headed by award-winning chef Todd Thornurn. Using only the best produce sourced from Victorian suppliers, Pigro’s menu is bursting with fresh and robust flavours, catering to a wide range of tastes. Alongside local and imported draught beers you can even grab yourself a glass of pinot grigio, or sangiovese straight from the tap!

Pigro’s menu starts small, as it should, with plates or highly shareable Mediterranean fare that are ideal with a drink or two drawn from Pigro’s well-stocked cellars. For Melbourne’s seafood fanatics paying a visit to this foodie oasis in Ivanhoe East, chargrilled Western Australian octopus and house smoked chinook salmon swim up against Clarence River school prawns, demonstrating the restaurant’s commitment to properly provenanced produce. Seafood does indeed dominate, as in the squid ink Italian pasta with pan-fried Moreton Bay bugs and the generous seafood platter heaped with Skull Island prawns, Hervey Bay scallops, salmon, chilli mussels, Alaskan king crab, oysters and calamari.
Deeper into Pigro’s offering, the grillhouse aspect of this prime Melbourne restaurant comes to the fore, with Gippsland grassfed beef steaks given a minimalist and eminently Mediterranean seasoning and going over on the coals. Pigro’s pizzas are perennially popular among Ivanhoe East locals looking for an authentic Italian pie, and Pigro’s kitchen along Lower Heidelberg Road comes equipped, naturally, with a traditional wood-fired oven to turn out gourmet discs like the slow-roasted lamb pizza and wood-fired chicken pizza with bacon, mozzarella, and smokey chipotle jus. A comprehensive kids menu and affordable price tags make Pigro a family-friendly favourite and the place to go for casual dining with some wow factor in Melbourne’s Ivanhoe East village.
We love the place ❤ The Food , The Wine, The service, The Decor. The ease of online booking with Quandoo. Yes, we will keep going back
The food was fantastic and so was the service. The restauant had a great vibe. Good selection of meals on the menu and some really nice daily specials. We certainly enjoyed the evening and will definitely be back.
So good, will visit again , will recommend to friends , food was ok, service was good , will go again for birthday party soon.
This was our second visit to Pigro. The service was very good. Staff very friendly. We were not happy with our initial table and when we asking to change to another table it was not an issue. The food cannot be faulted and the presentation was excellent. I would have liked another type of fresh fish to be on the menu besides flounder (even though we loved the flounder.) This restaurant was recommend by a friend and we were not disappointed. We will definately be back.
Pigro is an average local restaurant. Friendly inexperienced staff. The food was ok. I ordered a fillet steak which came out cold. I would Pigro another try because I believe in supporting local restaurants, but only one more try.
We Loved the service and the amazing food They serve The best oysters we've ever had. We have now made Pigro our favorite restaurant in Ivanhoe
The service was great and the food was simply incredible. Have to try the Pigro potatos as a side dish. Will be going back again soon.
The food was great, service good and overall we had a lovely night out. A couple of small negatives - the menu selection is limited, although as per above the food we had was delicious. And the chairs are not particularly comfortable if you plan on being there for a while.
The service was great but the food let this restaurant down. The prices don't match the quality of food. My husbands steak was cold and tough and one of the other pieces of steak that was over cooked and the portion size was tiny. The green vegetables were good, but the fennel salad lacked flavor. A disappointing dining experience.
Atmosphere and layout of the restaurant is beautiful. The staff were lovely and very attentive. The food looked amazing - though the taste did not quite match the aesthetic. till tasted good but not quite as good as it looked, a little overpriced for the taste. Overall - still a really nice night out
Pigro tries hard and the food was good - unfortunately the service wasn't aligned to the prices - which were too high given the overall experience
The food was lovely but the service was a bit slow & there was no bread to mop up the lovely sauce left in the bottom of each of our dishes. A pleasant night out. We will be going back.
Venue was lovely and food beautifully presented. Atmosphere was too noisy (could not hear the waiter over the noise), Meals were good for 3 of 4 diners. The only person who was not asked about his food - probably wouldn't have been able to hear the waiter anyway!
We had a fabulous time, great food, service and atmosphere. We are booked again for a larger group of 20 for our Xmas gathering. Looking forward to another great night out.
Beautiful food, great atmosphere and friendly staff . Have been several times with different groups and occasions (eg Father's Day, dinner with friends,, family dinner) and have never been disappointed.
Good service & good food - what more can you ask for? The chocolate torte was delicious and the wine list had lots of options by the glass.
Made to feel welcome on arrival and reservation accurate. Good food menu and wine list for a suburban restaurant and quality of the food was excellent. An enjoyable experience and we'll return soon.
Friendly, attentive staff, relaxed atmosphere but most importantly quality food. On the occasions we have dined, consistency of approach is evident. The wine list compliments the menu very well. An enjoyable dining experience.
Great Food, good variety, very tasty and good portion sizes. Friendly wait staff. very helpful & attentive. Enjoyable evening. Will definitely return and recommend to friends .
Great food well priced and really friendly, professional staff. This is just what Ivanhoe East needed. For a celebration or a sneaky weekday dinner, always a treat.
Great service, great good quality food, a little overpriced for what you get. Location is a funny one. Nestled in a quiet patch of Ivanhoe. Also there is an Amex surcharge you are not made aware of when you pay.
Food was good, although not exceptional, and the service was OK, but we were next to a large noisy table which made it hard to hear ourselves at our own table. Need to do something about the acoustics.
Had a fantastic night for my birthday waiter was really good and food was beautiful really full of flavour best food I've had for ages
Excellent service and food was exceptional as always. Have been here a couple of times now and am always impressed. Highly Recommend that you go!
food was ok my veal was dry, my husband's steak was good and my kids seafood pasta was good. we asked for bread only to be told we can a bruschetta or garlic pizza but no bread!!
On arrival the restaurant didn't have our reservation, however they were not busy so got us a table. The food was of good quality but too gourmet for my personal taste. Pricing overly high for what you receive. Service was ok, but not that attentive unless prompted. Overall 2.5.
Wonderful meal but very slow service. Apparently 3 people called in sick. The portions were generous, but you shouldn't have to pay for bread in my opinion
I found this very easy to use and very reliable. I would definitely use this again to book a restaurant in the future. Well done
Menu has lots of choice, friendly and very attentive staff, delicious food. Has a good " quick lunch" menu as well. Extensive wine list available
Nice venue, menu options on small side - wine list limited Although food was good- would like to see wood fire pizza back on menu
The food was ok. Slow and inattentive service. One of our main meals and side order was forgotten about as was one of the desserts. Disappointing.
Nice restaurant visually. It does miss a bit of spark, service was not great, duck was tough and definitely overpriced for what you get, would not recommend
