A bar and grillhouse restaurant in the Ivanhoe East village that bridges the divide between simplicity and culinary refinement, Pigro is a family-friendly local dining establishment that serves both contemporary and traditional interpretations of Mediterranean specialities. Using only the best produce sourced from Victorian suppliers, Pigro’s menu is bursting with fresh and robust flavours, catering to a wide range of tastes. Alongside local and imported draught beers you can even grab yourself a glass of pinot grigio, or sangiovese straight from the tap! Found down Lower Heidelberg Road in Ivanhoe East, this is one restaurant you really must check out ASAP.
Pigro’s menu – which changes seasonally – starts small, as it should, with plates or highly shareable Mediterranean fare that are ideal with a drink or two drawn from Pigro’s well-stocked cellars. For Melbourne’s seafood fanatics paying a visit to this foodie oasis in Ivanhoe East, Tasmanian crispy skin salmon and whole oven baked flounder swim up against Clarence River school prawns, demonstrating the restaurant’s commitment to properly provenanced produce. Seafood does indeed dominate, as in the seafood linguine and the generous seafood mezze platter with prawns, scallops, beer battered fish, grilled moreton bay bugs, mussels, oysters and salt & pepper calamari.
Deeper into Pigro’s offering, the grillhouse aspect of this prime Melbourne restaurant comes to the fore, with Gippsland grassfed beef steaks given a minimalist and eminently Mediterranean seasoning and going over on the coals. The pasta and risotti are perennially popular among Ivanhoe East locals looking for an authentic Italian fare and Pigro’s kitchen team seek out the very finest produce, fresh herbs and seafoods to make their Italian dishes really pop. A comprehensive kids menu and affordable price tags make Pigro a family-friendly favourite and the place to go for casual dining with some wow factor on Melbourne’s Lower Heidelberg Road.
Excellent food, great service and nice venue, what more can you ask for? It was quite busy even though it was a Sunday evening, we were made to feel very welcome and as we were running a little late we rang and advised, the staff were very appreciative of the call.
great service great food really good acoustics for conversation the seafood paella exceeded expectations and the special southern fried chicken as an entree was cooked to perfection
Fabulous food and service, I had the pork belly which was amazingly tasty, tender and had a perfectly crunchy crackle. Atmosphere and ambiance is great as well. This is our new regular. Well done Pigro!
We had a lovely dinner here. All of our food was delicious, the staff were attentive and the ambience was lovely. We will definitely be back and highly recommend.
This was our second visit to Pigro. The service was very good. Staff very friendly. We were not happy with our initial table and when we asking to change to another table it was not an issue. The food cannot be faulted and the presentation was excellent. I would have liked another type of fresh fish to be on the menu besides flounder (even though we loved the flounder.) This restaurant was recommend by a friend and we were not disappointed. We will definately be back.
Have had lunch here before and last nights experience didn't disappoint. Vibrant restaurant with an upbeat feel - so lucky we booked as was pretty busy. Great menu and excellent service provided all night. All meals were of high standard (taste/presentation) and couldn't really fault anything - be warned generous portions! As a dessert the 'Pigro Mess' was an inspired concoction. Wine list was a bit limited but those on offer presented a good range and quality. Will continue to include as one of the local restaurants we go out to with friends.
Pigro offers great food and service. The owners are so warm and welcoming and the prices are very reasonable. The kitchen is great to watch as well, with the plating up, being pure theatre. We love Pigro and will be bringing more of our friends here. Thank you. Alan and Libby
Went to Pigro for the first time having been recommended. It was a Wednesday night during the school holidays and it was really busy. We were shown to our table promptly and provided food and drink menus. We placed a drinks order and unfortunately had to enquire twice as to the whereabouts of our drinks which eventually arrived. Subsequent drinks were also tardy. The food was great and we really enjoyed it. Service seemed to suffer from a lack of manpower or being caught unawares as to how busy the night would be. We will definitely give it another try and see if this was a once off.
The food was tasty, tastes balanced. Ot was simply delicious. Kids and adults enjoyed it. We went to Pigro on a Tuesday. We didn't wait long to be served. The staff is lovely and paying attention to the customers. On the winter school holiday kids ate for free, a good deal! The restaurant is a bit expensive. And it's worth it.
We recently had dinner for four at Pigro June 2017 East Ivanhoe and all four meals were fantastic and the service was excellent. Prices in line with most very good family restaurants. Staff very friendly we did not have to wait for anything and this was our first experience eating there and will certainly go again. Rhonda
