Authentic Italian cuisine is the star of the show over at Pirata in Wan Chai, a restaurant whose influence is quickly spreading across Hong Kong. Airy and full of light, the restaurant’s premises are stunning and suitable for a number of different occasions, whether it's a business lunch, a romantic rendezvous or a big, family meal. Co-founders Manuel Palacio and Christian Talpo settle for nothing less than excellence in every aspect of the restaurant, and honing his skills in the kitchen, chef Stefano Rossi and his crew masterfully create dishes that transport diners to the Italian countryside
Start off by with some small plates like the grilled tomino cheese, tuscanian sea bass or the arancini bucket. Then, move on to a rustic Italian pasta dish like the purple potato gnocchi or pappardelle with duck ragu or go for some meat or seafood dishes designed to be shared around the table like the roasted suckling pig with scented apple sauce, bistecca alla Florentina (1kg T-bone steak with extra-virgin olive oil, rosemary and thyme) or the fresh fish of the day served. In addition to Italian dishes, Pirata is known for their cocktails – named after cosmopolitan cities like Tokyo, Copenhagen, San Francisco and London, the mixed drinks at Pirata are a must-try. Located on Hennessy Road, Pirata draws in diners from all across Hong Kong to its Wan chai location – guarantee a table by booking beforehand!
Great food, excellent service, fantastic location including the roof terrace. Had the beef salad, whole baked fish, octopus salad, anchovy crostini. All cooked and presented perfectly. Great place for groups and couples. Will go again.
Excellent from A to Z. The location, the table the service and most impotant best quality/ratio in HK. Never seen annother one close to beat them...
Our first night in HK was perfect. Pirata's dining experience from food to staff was perfect for 1st night in HK. It is truly from Italy Grandmama!
The prosecco served was very good, crisp and flavourful. The food( especially the meat balls) marvelous! The restuarant was full so it was a little noisy, but it was a fun group, so it was a most enjoyable experience. Definitely coming back
Excellent service; very good food and menu choices in general although dessert menu has some room for improvement; nice ambience although the dinning area was quite packed and noisy; and will definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends. Portion size is relatively large in Hong Kong standard. Small dishes are not small at all and most suitable for 2-4 people to share as starters while the 'to be shared at the table' items are big enough for four easily. The two of us ordered two small dishes and two to be shared dishes as we always did at other restaurants and we ended up so full that we had to struggle to decide whether we should order desserts. Since a nice meal would not be completed without dessert, we did order two relatively lighter desserts and they just hit the spot. I was glad that I asked for an expert opinion from the server who took our order then as I was planning to order a pasta dish as well originally. While we were enjoying our meal, I could smell the wonderfully strong black truffle from the Tagliatelle dish ordered by the couple next to us smelled and I really wished my stomach could have a bit more room then. I would say Pirata is especially good for larger parties as more variety of dishes can be tried then. As the restaurant does not include any service charge in the bill, I would suggest that at least 10%, if not more, of the total bill should be added as tips to reward the excellent service provided by the servers.
Excellent meal at Pirata. Pirata has probably one of the best Italian menus in Hong Kong but I had stopped bringing business dinners there because of the unbelievable inattentive service. In the past I have sat a table with a client and waited 15 minutes for a drink order to be taken and then waited another 15 before I finally just walked to the bar to get it myself. Dined there last night for the first time in a few months. Excellent food (as always) and very attentive but not intrusive service by the staff. When they are on their game, this is one of the nicest dinning experiences in HK. Will return again soon and hope to have another great experience. Bravo!
Moving from Tokyo where is a battle field of good restauratns, and being an Italian food lover (we spend summer in Italy every few years as we love the food so much!), it has been really difficult to find a GOOD Italian restaurant in Hong Kong. I have been to some well known pricy ones in HK but was not satisfied. Then I tried here, Pirata, for lunch and was really happy with the quality of the food. Cold cuts & salad buffet was delicious, pasta was done al dente, and especially the bread was awesome, crispy outside and soft & moist inside. I would definitely come back again! Thanks for the nice meal.
Located the 30th floor of an office building that houses several other restaurants, Pirata is very intimate, cozy and serves authentic Italian food. Small bar and a dozen tables with great views. We had amazing mussels, octopus salad and bruschetta to start. Then roasted chicken served in a hot skillet with potatoes and veggies was over the top. Eggplant parmigiana was sinful. Well priced wine list and excellent service.
The staff are attentive but suitably discreet, the food sublime, the view - as the lights of Hong Kong start to blaze against the approach of dusk - extraordinary, and the atmosphere welcoming and not stuffy. I could not have chosen a better venue for my fiftieth birthday celebration dinner, and am very grateful to Pirata for their contribution to a very happy evening
Food was excellent. We went on a Sunday lunch so it was buffet style. I don't like "buffets" as I tend to overeat and can't really enjoy the food. Nevertheless, appetizer (asparagus flan, cheese mozzarella sandwich) was excellent. Cold cuts, pasta and salad served at the open table was fresh and delicious. I ordered beef steak for main dish. It was alright but I was 85% full by the time it was served that I couldn't enjoy the food properly. Dessert was amazing however. Too full to even remember the names of the dessert unfortunately. I have to mention that the manager, a mandarin speaking Spanish, was extremely friendly. He made sure everything was well taken cared of and the experience was a memorable one.
The restaurant itself is well fitted out and nicely styled on the 30th floor. Staff were somewhat attentive, but didn't really appreciate that we wanted to be left alone for a while to catch up after we'd ordered entree and revisited the table every 5 mins or so to check. Unfortunately once ordered, the mains (tasty and inventive pasta dishes, especially the liquid ravioli) were served a considerable time apart - about 20 mins between the first one and the last one (of four). No idea why this happened, and no excuses or follow up offered by the staff. This meant our party either had to share or were forced to eat at separate times. Perhaps the concept of sharing the larger mains as listed in the menu (as opposed to pasta dishes) had the staff a bit confused. No major issue for us as friends but could be awkward if a business oriented meal. Otherwise an overall pretty good experience.
I went there for Brunch this time and discovered that it is a really great value for great food - the fettuccine with shaved black truffles was excellent! For only $298 at brunch, you really get a lot of food! This was my second time at Pirata and I will definitely be back!
Hi I m An Italian food lover staying a few days In HK for a business trip. I had lunch at the Pirata 's and I must really say that I had a fantastic Italian lunch in a nice and lovely place on the top floor With a fantastic view. Vasco
One of the best restaurants I have been to in Hong Kong. Superb! Great value, service, and atmosphere. The food was perfect. Lasagna is one of my absolute favorite meals and this was one of the most delicious I have had. I will certainly be going back to Pirata.
The Sunday brunch was fantastic. Starts off with a great Antipasto selection, with fantastic meats and cheeses. The giant Grana Padano wheel with nice chunks of cheese was incredible. All of the Apps were fantastic from the meatballs to the Asparagus flan. For the mains I tried the pasta with duck ragu and it was very flavorful and the pasta has the perfect bite to it. The deserts were the perfect way to finish with the Tiramisu and the Panna Cotta. All in all the perfect way to spend a sunday afternoon after a long night at LKF.
We had a wonderful experience from the moment we walked in we were greeted with a friendly smile and asked to take a seat for a few moments then we were taken to our table downstairs. The food was truly authentic Italian food the cheese on the Antipasta Plate along with the sliced meats was very tasty, the salad bar had a good selection all very fresh. Our main courses Meatballs and the Pasta with Duck were very generous serves. There was also a lovely choice of Desserts. I would fully recommending visiting this restaurant for Lunch
Our server Susan was excellent. So was manager, Anmol and Bar manager, Ryan. Food was very good and portion size excellent. We had the vittello tonato, cold cuts & cheese and lasagne. Will certainly recommend Pirata & will be back when we are in HK next
Excellent food, well-informed friendly staff. Everything I'd heard about Pirata is true. We went on a Monday night and the restaurant was packed. This place really is as good as the buzz. Don't think, just go try! :)
A fantastic restauarant in a beautiful location With a unique view are the frame of an excellent Italian food cooked by a great Chef from Turin. I higly recomment il Pirata to all of you! Vasco
Pirata was introduced by my boss。 Good service, the waitress is very nice, food is good, attractive price。 will share my experience with my friends n will visit again。 even we stayed after 3:00 pm, never push you。 Good。
Great food and service as usual. Good atmosphere too! I went there with my husband and 2 friends and it was their fist visit at Pirata. We all had an enjoyable time.
Consistently great. Food is delicious and service is wonderful. I always enjoy my time at Pirata, such a wonderful atmosphere too, very relaxed. I like to bring friends or business colleagues there and they have all praised it.
Great food and exceptional service at Pirata. A real find for Hong Kong. We ordered 3 appetisers and 2 mains to share and could not finish. Will be back for sure.
Great venue but the service a little disjointed. Had to ask for water, took ages for staff to take a drinks order, food took a while and we had to ask for condiments. Attention to detail not there - it was as if the staff were all young trainees. Even getting their attention to pay the bill was painful. The Italian sausage was good and the prawn risotto very tasty. Would go back but not for a while - staff need more training on observing customers and being attentive.
Service was perfunctory at best. Wine list is dramatically overpriced. The waiter reviewed the menu and highlighted the specials like he was reciting a canned speech. Drinks service was incredibly slow and the waiter was not at all knowledgeable about the spirit menu. The food was mediocre. Everything was quite bland and required a significant amount of salt. The starters were rushed out and we requested some time between the starters and our entrees -- we told the waiter we would advise him when we wanted him to let the kitchen know to fire our main dishes. We did tell him to let the kitchen know we were ready to have our entrees started and then served and our mains appeared within two minutes -- lukewarm. Clearly they had been started before we asked and were being kept under the warming lamp. Again, incredibly bland. The restaurant itself does not provide a pleasant dining experience -- acoustics are dreadful and it is unbearably loud. Overall a very disappointing experience, which I am unlikely to ever repeat.
We LOVED Pirata! Great food, great Atmosphere, generous portions! Waiters are considerate, no surprises on the bill, and did I mentioned great food? Only downside is, drinks are excluded.
Great meal, great service, great ambience! Have never had a bad meal or experience at Pirata of the roughly 20 times I've eaten there. Always top notch!
great service, great staff, great food....just love all the experiences I had at Pirata! it's definitely worth it trying one of the best Italian cuisine in HK.
Had a really enjoyable time at Pirata for lunch on a Tuesday. The food was amazing and the service was equally as good. Would definitely recommend.
Service is great, staff are friendly, food is delicious - casual dining at it's best. Every time I go, I am never disappointed. Thanks again Pirata
Food was great and we all enjoyed it. The ambience was really cool and it is somewhere we will definitely go again. Only downside was that we were sat in front of the kitchen. There was a free table as we were a three they said we could not sit there....then 10 mins late sat a group of three there!!!!!!just be consistent.
Our meal at Pirata was absolutely great. All our party really enjoyed the delicious food and wine served. Service was smooth and attentive as well.
Love the friendliness, excellent price for fresh quality food. Nice views and comfortable seats. Looking forward to return and celebrate another birthday at El Pirata!
The food and service are good but takes a longer time to wait for the food. The environment is very noisy. The overall experience is not as good as the last few times we had in Pirata.
The service is fantastic and the food is excellent. This is the second time for a visit and every people who works there is very helpful especially I brought my mum who is 91 and using wheelchair. They tried their best to accomodate her. we definitely enjoyed tremendously.
Service was friendly and good. The lunch buffet was hearty and quite filling. For the main course, the tagliatelle with truffle was excellent! Would definitely recommend that. Our 4-year old son enjoyed the mozzarella sandwich a lot, which was very yummy. Overall great weekend lunch place for family!
Great experience from the start. Our waitress was exceptional and very attentive and the food is amazing for what you pay. I cannot recommend this place enough and they even have a rooftop terrace which is great for finishing your last drink with a view of the city.
Took one of my clients to Pirata for a business lunch mid week, the food was great and the service was too. I will definitely be back again!
Many times in Pirata their Butcher's cut is my favour which I order every time, the suckling pig is delicious and the waiter and waitress are nice .
The only problem with lunch at Pirata is that I have always eaten too much of their appetisers and forgotten to leave room for the main course.
Very good food and friendly staff. I really liked that the staff was so helpful and they asked if its the first visit of ours and offered to explain their menu to us. They also would ask for comments for every dish so I could feel they are quite serious about what they do.
Other being unable to place the balloons we bought for our friend's birthday, the dining experience was really good. Food was really good, especially the recommendations: The Butcher's Cut and the tagliatelle with truffles! Would definitely recommend anyone to try it out! Location was also very convenient, with the MTR exit only 5-minute away.
A great experience overall, just don t like the idea that, we are reminded that we need to return the table in 2 hours. ( though finally they didn't bust us out.. still, it tarnishes the whole experience) We are talking about a dinner for four with a bill more than 2,000 hk$.
Excellent services and food, nice rooftop, definitely worth and A+ recommendation, definitely come back again for sure, Pirata is a hidden gems in Wanchai, love it.
I think they have changed the menu slightly, added in seasonal dishes. All the small dishes and pasta we had were divine. We ordered their liquid dessert, lemon sorbet with vodka, and the staff served it in three shot glasses, thumbs up. The 6th star was the noise level :(
Great ambiance! We got stuck in the traffic and ended up 2-1/2 hours late. Notified the restaurant, and they still managed to get us a table right away when we got there, despite the crowd. Food is fair, but service was great! And we had a great time.
Food was great- especially enjoyed the butchers cut and the burrata. Service was not as good as the last time I was there and the music was too loud and more like club music than restaurant music. Would go back since the food was so good.
Gathering friendly place, the food and cocktail are pretty good for the price. The only problem is there need to hire more serving staff as is hard to find some waiter/ waitress to ask for refills or order extra things without waiting for quite some time.
Service is great and one of the waitresses was very helpful in explaining and recommending certain dishes in the menu. I would not say the food was fantastic but excellent quality especially the bread, meatball & dessert. The price is relatively not cheap given it's location is in Wanchai but we liked the overall design and atmosphere.
Very good food and very nice service and staff! We really enjoyed our time there. As we were very early we had a drink first at their place on ground floor, which was also very nice.
