For many, proper Italian eating means amazing food along with plenty of good wine, lots of fun, family and friends. If that’s the ideal image of Italian eating, then Ruby Red Flamingo has to be the ideal Italian eatery in Adelaide. It’s a very cool, colourful, cosy space on Tynte Street in North Adelaide and the kitchen – led by talented head chef Enzo – likes to celebrate the seasons and keep things fresh. There is no permanent menu, instead Enzo and his crew take whatever fresh ingredients and new ideas are at hand and produce truly first-rate meals, balancing Italian traditions and modern Australian flair in a way that’s hard to forget.
Ruby Red Flamingo radiates one thing: cool. Cool is in everything this Italian restaurant does – from its approach to food to its bohemian decor – but not in an arrogant way – in an effortless, endearing way. In Adelaide, it’s some mixture of a chic modern bistro and funky family place. There are shelves stacked with carefully-selected, top quality wines, curious pieces of art and an eclectic selection of chairs. Found on Tynte Street in North Adelaide, it really is a wonderful place for group gatherings, special occasions or social events – and we haven’t even got to the food yet!
Unlike anywhere else you are likely to find in Adelaide, the menu is ever changing according to two things: what ingredients are freshest for the time of year, and what the team of expert chefs happen to feel like creating. Ruby Red Flamingo certainly takes a fun approach to food but the results are always the same: Italian dishes that are exquisite and a force to be reckoned with in North Adelaide. There is, however, the constant presence of a hearty Italian banquet menu, fit for groups of ten or more and including some damn fine seafood carpaccio and pasta that can be prepared gluten-free. Ruby Red Flamingo is simply one that you have to try yourself, reserve a table now and go have some fun.
Wonderful food, great atmosphere, good price and pleasant staff made our lunch at Ruby Red Flamingo very memorable. There were five in our party and the banquet option satisfied all our needs. A great restaurant
Insanely good food!! Had the most beautiful lunch with fantastic service. The outside garden area was a lovely spot for my mothers birthday. Thanks RRF.
Fantastic restaurant, great food and location, one of the waitresses a little grumpy but everyone has a bad day now and then. The tall Italian guy however is an absolute legend!!!!!!! Fully recommended.
This restaurant always delivers great food and service, every time, atmosphere is relaxed and fun and the menu has something for everyone with good portion sizes
We - four adults and one small child - went to Ruby Red Flamingo for a birthday lunch. The service was excellent - friendly and attentive - and the food delicious. Although it was a cold, rainy day and we were sitting in the covered area outside, we were warm as toast. A big plus with this place is that it is quiet - something that is quite rare to find today.
I have never dined at Ruby Red Flamingo before, you were never originally able to book for lunch sittings. Having our manager over from Melbourne I was wondering where to take them and thought I would check out ruby red again. You can now book for lunch which is the best!! As we entered we were greeted by our waiter. His service was great and the food was amazing!
A great Friday lunch as usual. Ricardo & the team at Ruby Red Flamingo again treated us like we were at the family table. Quiet, efficient staff who know what they are doing. The shared plates (the best way to try out the menu) of superb food just kept coming. We will be back in a few weeks to be spoilt once more.
I love the food here, there is a great variety of traditional Italian food as well as a modern twist. Eg in the entree sectionthe carpaccio swordfish, octopus and polenta are so tasty. We had the banquet which is a good way to enjoy a variety of styles. Our waitress was very helpful in deciding what to eat, especially as we have some dietary limitations. The duck ravioli and prawn/calamari skewers was very yummy. The wine menu is also a great selection of Australian and Italian wine. We'll be back for more.
Great Adelaide weather, great outdoor venue, great food. The makings for an excellent gentlemen's lunch. There were five of us to celebrate a mate's birthday. The staff were friendly & efficient. We took our own wine (reasonable corkage charges) though as I recall they do have a a good wine list. The food is meant to be shared & this worked quite well between the five of us. The favourite was the polenta & spinach dish. The waiter was attentive & supplied us with excellent service. I am sure we will be going back soon.
A delightful find! We were seated in the outdoor area. What we particularly enjoyed and appreciated: - the charming almost rustic environment - the assorted 1970s crockery used in the table settings - the different styles of seating available - the service - warm and attentive without being intrusive and - the food - very tasty, good sized portions, reasonably priced and uncluttered. And what a pleasant surprise to be given the option of 'sparkling, natural or TAP' water when we were first seated.
