Newcastle is an awfully long way from the Med, but if you close your eyes while dining at Rustica, you might be able to imagine yourself sat on the Mediterranean. The sound of the ocean and the beach might take you to Barcelona, the weather could transport you from the Hunter Valley to the Cote d’Azur, and indeed, the sight of massive ships and seagulls dive bombing for your chips is reminiscent of the ports of Piraeus or Naples. Rustica on King Street in Newcastle East present an authentic taste of the Med via their menu, which includes tapas from Spain, Turkish mezze and French platters to start, seafood specialities from all over the region, Moroccan vegetable tagines, Kleftiko lamb shoulder, Italian meatballs, Cypriot halloumi and plenty more besides. Take the train to the end of the line at Newcastle station, disembark and then wander towards the water for a rustic meal at Rustica. Remember to book, however, as they will get busy from time to time and it pays to plan ahead.
Rustica has fantastic food in an amazing setting. The service was excellent and everything was fairly priced. My partner and I shared multiple dishes and were very satisfied. 10/10
This was our second visit to Rustica. A friend recommended and the first visit was so good we came back for my husband’s birthday. The food is amazing, service is great and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable
As in previous dining visits, we had a great meal and excellent service. Would definatly dine here again with a broad menu to suit many diet preferences.
