Dining in the heart of the Yarra Valley, surrounded by hectares of vineyards bearing chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, shiraz, pinot noir and semillon – what could be better? Shantell Vineyard has been lovingly tended by Shan and Turid Shanmugam for over twenty-five years, and for some time now they’ve been luring lovers of fine wine and food to their gorgeous enclave at Dixons Creek, just 60km from the centre of Melbourne for cellar door tastings and superb meals, all year round. As seasonal as any viticultural enterprise would suggest, you can choose to dine indoors at Shantell’s or alfresco on two large verandahs, so close to the vines you can touch them. Barramundi, Bannockburn chicken, gnocchi a la Parisienne, Great Ocean duck, and kangaroo loin are just some of the temptations on the ever-changing menus at this restaurant, perfect for a special outing or a significant celebration.
Great food & wine, lovely outlook. Boutique style without the crowds of the larger wineries, could actually have a decent conversation without having to raise our voices. Will certainly return.
