Dear diners, please be aware that Shish is now licensed to serve alcohol.
Shish has stood on Halfway Street in the centre of Sidcup since 1993, but their tradition goes back much further than that. This restaurant stands in the shadows of hundreds of years of Ottoman and Turkish cuisine, and all the myriad dishes that that entails. It means mezzes – the whole range, from hummus, halloumi, dolmades and more – and then a huge range of grilled meats to follow. So take the train to Sidcup or New Eltham (close to the University of Greenwich) for a great Turkish meal at Shish!
Turkish food was made for sharing and enjoying with a gang, so it’s no wonder that Shish on Halfway Street in Sidcup is such a big hit with big groups of friends and families. Whether you’re after some refined veggie options bursting with flavour and nutrients or if you’re looking to eat mountains of marinated and charcoal grilled meats, the menu at this Sidcup spot will certainly whet your appetite.
Lamb comes in the form of cutlets, ribs and kofte and chicken comes as grilled wings or kulbasti, but the real stars of the show are the shish kebabs, which are marinated in spices and then cooked over charcoal in the time-honoured traditional way. Throw in Turkish vegetarian favourites – falafel, moussaka, stuffed aubergines and potatoes – and grilled whole seabass and salmon fish dishes, and you’re well on the way to a great night out in Sidcup. We highly recommend you try the coban salatasi (a finely chopped tomato salad with onions and herbs) on some crispy pide bread (thin, herbed flatbread) before trying one of the incredible kebabs or steaks on offer. As you can see, the food at Shish in Sidcup is remarkable, but don’t just take our word for it – book a table today!
We had a lovely 2 course meal with drinks for 3 people, me, my mum and my adult son, this mother's Day. A good atmosphere and friendly service. My mum is a vegetarian and there is a good variety of vegetarian food. I had a lamb wrap which was nice, I can't remember what my son had, but he said it was good. They do a takeaway service too and we have always had good quality takeaways.
Very nice friendly local restaurant. Lots of different dishes on menu and food we chose was excellent quality and the portions were very large. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to others.
Every visit to Shish has been all I could ask. I can find absolutely no fault with anything at all. Highly recommend you try it for yourself.
we went to the shish for my girlfriend's new job celebration of 4 of us first of all the owner over there was such a lovely person,he served us on his own and I can clearly say that he is very professional on his business,if we need to say about food it was good portion size and very delicious,I could feel that from the gergous smell of the food was all fresh and juicy, the house red wine was absolutely nice, thanks for the shish team for a lovely experience..
This was my second visit to Shish and was just as good as the first. The menu is quite clearly written and easy to read and has quite a broad range of dishes. Both times we have had the 2-3 person hot platter, this time we also had the cold platter as a starter. The cold platter admittedly needs to be served with a little more bread but that is the only negative i could offer. All of the items (including hummus, yoghurt, olives, pepperonata style thing) were tasty and fresh - taramasalata is one of my least favourite things usually as i find it a little too 'fishy' but at shish it is quite delicately flavored and delicious. The hot platter(s) represent fairly good value for money but the most notable element is just how perfectly they are cooked. Just enough char on the meats (i presume they are cooked over charcoal) to add flavour without drying out the meat, the lamb items having just a little pink in them and the chicken cooked to succellent perfection. I would prefer the rice to be served more on the side than under the meat but that is only to make it easier to mix and match as you go through the meal. Service is also great, staff are friendly and the atmosphere is pleasant but beer is a little overpriced in my opinion (nearly £6 for a pint of Cobra) and that for me is the only reason to knock off a point. Bring those beer prices down a bit and this restaraunt is about as close to perfect as you get.
We were a booking of six, three adults and three children. Out of the children only one liked the chicken and none of them liked the lamb. There was too much marinade on the chicken and lamb for the other two, so they only ate the chips and salad. Wasn't happy that the children's meals didn't come with salad, only chips. The adults meals also never came with chips, rice or pitta, which is unusual for a Turkish Restaurant. They did come with salad that you would get in a kabab shop. The side order of chips was very small, unlike other Turkish Restaurants. Daughter loved it. Her dad thought it was OK and liked the chicken and lamb. I liked the chicken and lamb, but personally had too much fat on it, which I will not eat and one piece was just fat and grisle. Also the salad that came on the plate was just shredded cabbage, pickle and onion drowned in oil and vinaigrette. Would her father and I go again, no. Saying that our daughter loved it and probably will go again. The overall price we paid for 6 wasn't bad, but two of the children could've just had chips and salad. They usually always eat their meals in other Turkish Restaurants!. You have to try for yourself as what one person deslikes another person will like. We booked for 5pm due to children having school the next day. It wasn't busy with only one other table, which did see three other settings at it while we were there. There was no background music, which I usually like Turkish music playing in the background.
Food was fantastic - service was good, and was nice to be able to talk without having to shout at one another. I had garlic prawns to start, very tasty and lots of flavour - just the right amount for a starter, I shared the mixed platter with my husband and that didn't disappoint either. sadly no room for dessert but great evening - will be going back!
Food was lovely and hot. Unfortunately myself and my partner couldn't hear each other speak due to a party of 22 extremely loud people people in the restaurant at the same time which ruined our evening and experience. The Noise was so loud it resorted to us not talking that much and our service was also slow. Our drink orders wasn't taken for ages, it was as if a table of two was forgotten about due to the larger party. I would suggest putting a number limit on the parties to stop ruining the atmosphere for others
One of the best turkish restaurant in sidcup, great service, delicious food, reasonable price, house white wine was perfect,my girl friend had a coctail and she said it was very good so i had another one for myself and i really liked it too, will be definitely returning again
I've wanted to visit shish for a long time and I certainly was disappointed. I went on a Saturday night with my husband and we both thought the food was amazing and the staff were really friendly. I will definitely be going back again.
