Thai Carnation is not only one of Wollongong’s premier Thai eateries, it’s arguably the city’s most stylish and best located, right in the city centre. Found at the corner of Crown and Corrimal streets, Thai Carnation is just a short walk from the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre, Wollongong Art Gallery, MacCabe Park and Win Stadium. Still, you don’t need to be a lover of culture, nature or the Dragons to appreciate it, because Thai Carnation could be just about anywhere and it would still be as good thanks to its elegant atmosphere and superb Thai food. In operation since the early 1990s, Thai Carnation have well and truly mastered Thai classics like tom yum, Thai beef salad and pad kee mao to suit Australian preferences, but it’s the rest of the menu that puts Thai Carnation a class above most other Thai restaurants, and we recommend something like the whole calamari stuffed with ground chicken, or the ‘Crying Tiger’ grilled marinated beef, to get the full experience.
Slow waiters, Did not come back to our table after delivering meals, so we had to signal them to get another jug of water for the table. Water on table was room temperature, not refreshing. Meals did not come out together. Incorrect meal given to one diner as Waiter did not wait for answer from diner, just placed meal down in front of diner, said something incomprehensible, interrupted diners conversation, and did not wait 1 second to ensure meal was for correct diner. Meals themselves were quite ordinary. Beef in both entree and main meal was tough, chicken over cooked and dried out.
It was so easy to book for Thai carnation on Quandoo. The food here was excellent and the service and staff was great too. One of the nicest Thai restaurants I have been to.
Great food, big portions and i will be going back for more. We lamb shanks are a must try .. and strongly recomend the Grilled Salmon fillet, topped with mild curry sauce and lime leaves.
