One of Sydney’s trendiest Vietnamese eateries, The Bald Viet in Balmain didn’t take long to win over the city’s discerning foodie crowd. Fresh and simple, the restaurant offers a mixture of traditional Vietnamese entrees and a wide variety of street-food snacks and mains. Despite its rather recent opening in 2014, The Bald Viet on Darling Street has already gained some serious bragging rights, earning the reputation as one of Sydney’s best Vietnamese restaurants.
The food was too salty. We waited for our main meals for over an hour. A dissapointment for the price to value. Wouldnt recommend it
Clean, simple decor and one of the friendliest teams in Balmain make The Bald Viet feel like a comfortable place to dine from the moment guests step into the restaurant. Led by an actual bald Viet, the restaurant’s kitchen runs like a well-oiled machine, quickly churning out Vietnamese classics using fresh ingredients and recipes passed down from generation to generation. Situated on Darling Street, The Bald Viet finds itself close to Mort Bay in Sydney’s lovely Balmain.
Serving up street-food favourites inspired by the bustling thoroughfares of Hanoi and traditional Vietnamese dishes like pho and lemongrass beef, The Bald Viet pleases trend-loving hipsters and dedicated Asian-food fans alike. Be sure to try the caramelised pork – slow-cooked to perfection in a clay pot, it’s a hearty dish that’s always keeps guests coming back for more. Although the restaurant has a pretty meat-heavy menu, vegetarians have several options, including the lemongrass tofu and vermicelli salad. Open daily, The Bald Viet provides the much sought-after Vietnamese cuisine Balmain locals have been craving – make a reservation and see pho yourself!
