Thinking about making a The Butcher's Den booking?

It seems that these days you can’t walk a footstep in Melbourne without stumbling over some kind of cafe, so it’s the distinctive, inventive ones that really stick in your mind (and they’re also the ones you will return to time and time again). Housed in an old butcher’s shop on Nicholson Street in Carlton North, the decor at The Butcher’s Den harks back to an older time with some of the old shop fittings and furniture that has been revamped still in place. Huge, glossy mahogany tables with antique metal fixtures flank the floors of The Butcher’s Den, with retro tiles adorning the walls. The bright, airy space is extremely inviting in itself before you even look at the menu, and the kids play area out back is certainly a big draw for anyone with little children.

But, enough about the decor – what about the food at this Carlton North cafe?! The Butcher’s Den makes a great spot for breakfast or lunch, with opening hours from 8am to 4pm every day of the week. It has to be said that Melbourne is pretty darn good at brekkie, and you can enjoy delightful dishes such as the ‘Butchers Beni’ with a quinoa and beetroot rosti, smoked sea trout, pea tendrils, poached eggs and a green hollandaise sauce or homemade waffles with dulce de leche, apple chips and compote, raspberry mascarpone and matcha sponge at The Butcher’s Den. Our advice? Arrive with an appetite!
