Featuring four different restaurant areas – The Bakehouse, The Snug, The Drawing Room and The Garden Room – and an outdoor garden for the warmer months, this pub and restaurant in Woolsthorpe’s town centre is the perfect setting for a dinner with friends and relatives or one-of-a-kind private function. With opening hours seven days a week, there’s never a bad day to stop by The Chequers Inn in Main Street for an after-work pint with friends or a hearty English meal that comforts the soul.
Head chef Andrew Lincoln and sous chef Keith Martin lead the way in the restaurant’s kitchen, bringing years of expertise and an intimate knowledge of British cooking to the forefront. By offering seasonal menus, The Chequers Inn ensures that diners are treated to farm-fresh vegetables which are newly picked and bursting with flavour. The menu includes a wide range of main courses like char-grilled rib-eye steak with hand-cut chips, garlic mushrooms and bearnaise sauce and the pan-fried pheasant breast with pearl barley risotto, as well as pub classics like The Chequers Gourmet Burger, beer-battered cod with hand-cut chips and BBQ pork ribs served with red cabbage slaw and peri peri chips. Make sure to stop by for the weekly Sunday lunch and tuck in to some roast beef, roasted chicken breast of pan-fried sea bass and take advantage of the restaurant’s beautiful outdoor seating, but do reserve ahead to guarantee a seat at this town centre restaurant.
Lovely Sunday lunch - selection of roasts, good mix of real ales and excellent wine list. All in the beautiful surroundings of the Vale of Belvoir, enabling us to walk it all off afterwards. Highly recommended!
A lovely place with very warm and welcoming staff. The food was yummy but honestly think it's the staff that make this place so great!
Made to feel at ease as soon as got there at the bar. We arrived earlier than planned and it was no trouble to arrange the food earlier. The food was plentiful and well presented. We asked for more gravy, and it was no problem. Everyone was courteous and timely and overall it was a lovely calm environment to talk, relax and eat and dink. The price was right too. PERFECT way to spend a Sunday lunch time with friends 👍👍👍
Comfortable room, lovely breakfast , great location and friendly staff . We will be returning for longer next time . The dining option in the inn was excellent also .
The Chequers Inn is one of Belviors gems. A wonderful ambience with a roaring fire - which is in the bar area. We ate in the Bake House which is lovely. The staff were extremely friendly and very attentive during our stay. We were there on a Sunday so opted forthe Roast Sirloin, which was served with all the trimming. Delicious! I would recommend this.
I usually love the chequers, but the visit this weekend left me feeling disappointed. We arrived and our table wasn't ready (not really a problem) but when it was ready nobody told us, so I had to go to the bar half an hour later and ask if our table was ready, to which I was told 'yeh, it's been ready a while'. After this service was pretty slow and the waitresses didn't know why the daily specials were. The food was ok, but far from the best food I've had at the chequers previously. We asked for the bill several times but ended up giving up as it didn't arrive and went to the bar to pay. Sadly, shortly after leaving the restaurant I became quite ill, with the symptoms suggesting some sort of food poisoning. I didn't notice a problem with the food whilst eating, but something clearly wasbt right. I hope that I just caught the chequers on a bad day, as I previously really enjoyed coming here, but I would like to see drastic improvements in the service before I return next and to hope that nobody else became sick after eating here. If this does not improve I won't be returning again.
For a start we were greeted like two headless corpses had just walked in the room! no smile, no Hi or welcome just nothing! we were sat at a table, table 25 to be exact, no drinks service for a good 15 minutes, no bread offered before our meal!? we ordered starters which were OK, nothing special, risotto and mushrooms on toast, main course we had a gourmet (?) burger and monk fish again nothing special i left half of the burger just because it was so average!, deserts were good and we had the dessert wines which accompanied nicely, but all in all after forking out 92 quid for two of us on a very very average meal it was disappointing to say the least. Not sure we will return to this one again which is a shame as the chequers could be really good, a smile and a welcome costs nothing and goes a long way too.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. The food was top quality and the pub is stylish comfortable and beautifully decorated. You felt like you are at home. The service was attentive and while we were not hurried, at the same time we were not waiting. The staff were all uniformed and smart and very friendly. I would highly recommend this place it's adorable and relaxing.
This was our first visit along with family. We had 2 teenagers with us who were well catered for despite odd requests. We had a lovely round table so we could all see one another and most of all the food was lovely. I haven't had a burger for years! Thank you - we will be visiting again!
Lovely food, friendly staff, nice cosy atmosphere. Well run pub,we love it here. We are local to the area, so appreciate its close proximity to Belvoir Castle. If your travelling I would suggest staying over to enjoy the rest of what the Vale of Belvoir has to offer in terms of beautiful walks & pretty villages.
Overall excellent food, nice to have a number of different areas to eat in. We were right next to fire on table 31 lovely and cosy. They had run out of pork so my son and i had the beef and my wife the fish. Had to wait a little for the table but not excessive. Will certainly go back Jeff Old
Our first visit, on this occasion the excellent Sunday lunch was the order of the day, Very good it was too, good choice on the menu with something to suit everyone. The restaurant was very busy with clearly a strong repeat trade. Good food, good service and good value !
So worth the 45 minute drive from Nottingham to visit the Chequers, warm welcome, attentive service throughout. Lovely atmosphere, raging log fire, perfect for a January day. Sunday lunch, excellent produce, well prepared, will visit again in Spring the surrounding countryside will be a picture. Thanks
The menu stated garlic roast potatoes with the chicken dish- they were not. Just boiled potatoes which were fried in a pan for a bit. I also mentioned that it was my mothers birthday when i booked, they did not acknowledge this at all. It would have been nice even if they had just stuck a little candle on her desert..... Starters were lovely though and service was good.
Food was excellent! Took a good while to come a d take our order but was definitely worth the wait. 🖒A bit pricey as we couldn't all manage desert and was a fixed price for 3 courses so paid whether we had it or not but the 2 courses we did have were delicious.
We had a very enjoyable lunch and dinner as well as staying the night which was followed by a hearty breakfast. The food and rooms were excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall it was an experience which I would recommend.
Beautiful surroundings bar had nice open fire going. Great range of beers to choose from. Waitress very attentive helping my wife sort out gluten free options. Meals came out quickly the pie of the day was fantastic. Will certainly use the Chequers again. Dave-Jeanie
Excellent food as always...they make even the simplest of dishes extraordinary and real value for money. I had pork, Apple and black pudding pie and I can honestly say it was the best pie I have ever had. Will definitely be having that again.
Quick and attentive service. Menu 2 courses for £13.95 (starter and main only) but still £13.95 if you don't want a starter! Plus an extra £3.95 supplement for beef. So my husband had roast beef with one Yorkshire pudding 3 roast potatoes and shared veg with my friend and I and it cost an extortionate £17.90! We won't be going back in a hurry!
Food was excellent but we had to ask twice for our order to be taken after approx. 25mins of being seated. Also had to ask twice for a bottle of drinking water. It seemed as though the restaurant was struggling to manage the number of diners that had been booked in.
Again another lovely meal, friendly and polite staff, relaxing atmosphere. We would have given 6 if we had just been asked if we'd like to try the wine or asked if we would like it poured. Our second bottle we didn't even know it had arrived as no one said anything.
Food was excellent and reasonably priced. Was very busy when we arrived, but the table was ready within 5 minutes, and the service was acceptable. The drinks came quickly but the food order took longer. Happily we were a group of four, so it didn't matter too much. We will return.
Love the chequers inn we booked for 3 but ended up with 4 and it was no problem for them. Food great lovely real fire to warm us on a cold winters day what else could we ask for 😍
Girly lunch today. Food was excellent . Highlights - Fresh Lemon Sole and Sticky toffee pudding. Service very good- attentive without being intrusive. Wedding party happening at the same time but did not intrude on the dining experience. Thoroughly recommend!.
Lovely restaurant, friendly staff who welcomed us as a party of four walkers. Great location and well appointed. Best burger I have had outside of NYC and I am not a burger person normally. Would definitely return and thoroughly recommend. Thanks for your contribution to our lovely day.
A great Sunday lunch! A warm and friendly greeting and a surprising choice of beers and other drinks. Service with a smile at the table and great food. Nothing rushed and nothing seemed too much trouble. We will be back
Chequers never fails to impress me. A quintessential English country pub in an idyllic location. The food was fantastic and there was a superb atmosphere. Wish this place was on my doorstep but worth driving out to every time!!
Fantastic as always. Consistently good food and service, with a very warm welcome. Bloody Marys are to be recommended, and the wine list is varied and interesting. A real gem in the Vale of Belvoir and worth a detour!
Fabulous food.. best sticky toffee pudding ever! Lovely surroundings, elegant and non pretentious, very friendly staff .. only negative is we weren't very warm hence 5 out of 6. But overall experience was excellent plus our little dog came too! We will definitely be back.
Lovely place restaurant area nice and open not on top of each other the entrance /bar area was cosy it was very busy so u felt in the way occasionally of the waitresses taking food . The meal was lovely and we got great service
Very cosy atmosphere, friendly welcome, nice menu with good options with the specials and monthly menu. The Bakehouse was a nice dining experience and the service from start to finish was great along with the food.
Good atmosphere & environment. The staff were friendly & welcoming, & the service good. A lovely place to visit for a Sunday lunch. The food was no more than average, hence the score, but if you're not a foodie & want a nice place to meet up, The Chequers is to be recommended.
Lovely pub in a lovely setting The food was good had the Sunday lunch although didn't read the small print that it was extra and not on the 2 course for a set price maybe should make it clearer on the menu
Consistently excellent - I've been coming here for lunch for around 20 years and have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The Chequers salad is unusual and delicious and great value for money.
Very buzzy friendly place. Visited whilst in the area and would definitely return. Great stock of gin and wines. Overall food slightly overcooked, fish cakes, fish and chips. However waiting staff considering how busy it was were very attentive.
We had a lovely meal at the Chequers Inn. The staff were friendly, efficient and very welcoming and the food was delicious. We were impressed with the menu selection on offer and the range of drinks that were available.
Very friendly efficient service, tasty lunch and lovely venue. Very much liked the alterations that had taken place since my last visit a couple of years ago! 😀 Fun venue highly recommended
Lovely old building with open fires and true character. Very enjoyable meal. Next time we're in the area we'll come back and stay in one of the rooms which also look good.
restaurant was very busy but excellent setting, food & service. they called taxi and let me keep my car in car park overnight. was again busy when picked car up next day
FOOD AND SERVICE AS GOOD AS EVER. WOULD ALWAYS RECOMMEND THE CHEQUERS. A HIDDEN GEM OF A PUB AND ALL MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS WILL BE GOING . NOT TO BE MISSED.
Excellent!! Mother's Day with my Wife & Boys, Great Food and Great service, a credit to all the staff as it was really busy, Thank you Andy F & Family
absolutely excellent the treacle tart was without doubt the best bit apart from the Cheese and the Pate !!! Service was very good and always with a smile Well done
Delicious food, warm atmosphere, lovely open fire. Great venue. We are regulars and it always delivers. I had the scallops to start followed by the flat iron steak frites, delicious!
Perfect service received and perfect food and atmosphere as always! Often go for celebrations worth the travel would recommend to all family and friends. Will be there again soon!
Good menu and good wine list . We had an excellent lunch. The steak and the fish and chips were both very good. The service and environment were also good. Would definitely go back.
Had a party of 6 from various countries in Europe on a Monday night works dinner and the service and food were excellent. Well done to the team!
Country Inn with excellent food and service, would highly recommend, good choice of food nothing too much trouble if required, excellent value for money, you wouldn't be disappointed.
Wonderful evening, all of the staff were pleasant and helpful. The food was lovely. Did not feel rushed at any point - really relaxed time. Will definitely return
