Further Information

The West Midlands was once the inspiration for Mordor in Middle Earth, with factories and smoke, but here in the Worcestershire country village of Clent, the feeling is a little more Shire than Sauron. The Fountain on Adam’s Hill offers a feeling of the old days on the outskirts of Stourbridge, with a menu packed with British and international classics and a bar stocked with a regularly-rotating selection of cask ales, a full wine list and plenty of spirits to boot.

The usual menu at The Fountain at Clent is populated by meaty British favourites – lamb pot roast, beef wellington and steaks – as well as a few veggie and fish options, but it is the specials that we think are, well, special. Head to Adam’s Hill in Clent for their superlative Sunday Lunch, served with all the trimmings, of course, or even for a game of traditional skittles – their skittle room has its own special menu all of its own. Visit Richard and Jacqui at The Fountain for a proper British feed, just outside Stourbridge.

You always know you will get freshly cooked food, with chips, potatoes and veg in the price. They do a fixed price and Al a Carte menu too. Always busy. Only downside there is no bar to wait at as such. There are outside seats but with the English weather you can never guarantee it wont rain.

A full house greeted our 13.30hrs reservation and uur personalised menu acknowledged us a friends. The service and food were, as ever, excellent , The Calves Liver was a delicious delicacy and the remainder of the food "quality" and generous. Another special occasion at the Fountain Clent-"value for money" John McQuay

I have eaten at The Fountain at least three times last year, with my husband and sometimes with friends. This time I visited on the 6th January 2017 with three other family members. My fellow diners had the steak, the chicken and the fish pie. The steak was perfectly well done as requested. The fish pie and the chicken in a tomato sauce were also said to be delicious. I am a vegetarian and my only reservation is that the four times I have been in the last 12 months, I have had the same meal, Goat's cheese Wellington. Although there are three choices on the menu (2 more than many other places) the Wellington is the only meal I think goes with the accompanying steamed vegetable, dauphinoise potatoes and the delicious twice cooked chips. The other alternatives being curry and pasta. Having said that, I wouldn't like to take away a point as the choice of lagers, two of my guests were offered and the friendly service we always get and the assiette of desserts are all worth that extra point. I've already booked again for our wedding anniversary in February.

We had booked a table of four for 6PM Saturday evening, the previous week and just as well we did as the Restaurant was well attended. The pre-booked bottle of Prosecco -was well chilled and waiting for our arrival. Printed on the menu was a welcoming address to our group personally -what a lovely touch. The waiter was charming and served us well throughout the meal. I chose The home made falafel which came with a wonderful tangy yogurt , mint and coriander dressing which was gorgeous. This was followed by the Queenies Felix- Pan fried scallops with smoked bacon, white wine, fish stock, parsley and cream, accompanied by rice. Accompanied by a dish of fresh vegetables, dauphinoise potatoes and chips. The vegetables were fresh and vibrant. I did steel the odd chip and these were perfectly cooked. - fluffy in the middle and crisp on the outside. The whole experience was fabulous and without doubt, the best meal I have had in a very long while. Will definitely be back again.

We are regulars and again enjoyed our meal at the Fountain. This is the first Sunday lunch we have had and we're pleased to find a full range of roast meats plus seasonal turkey. The beef was available as rare or not and the usual yummy slow roasted shoulder of lamb was also there. Menus are personalised which can be taken home as as a momento - a lovely touch. We were celebrating my daughters birthday and she not only appreciated the birthday wishes printed on the menu but also the complementary glass of prosecco. Side veg with the main are plentiful and with potatoes three ways proved more than enough. We managed the trio of deserts and rolled home happy and full. Service was exceptionally welcoming, friendly and efficient. Well done all at the Fountain.

My wife & I booked for our anniversary being only the second time we've visited the Fountain, but again we enjoyed a lovely evening. We already knew that the food was a little more expensive than your run of the mill restaurants, but it's not difficult to understand why, because neither was the menu run of the mill. The food was all freshly cooked, well presented & excellent. The staff were very friendly, we were served by a young man named Jack who looked after us in a fine way adding to the enjoyment of our special evening, We look forward to returning again soon to the Fountain & wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone

As an ex sous chef of the old school, there is an ethos of food at the Fountain that uses flavour and balance, from start to finish. There's also great attention to detail in every single thing. One has a strong feeling that there is a highly trained team, from front of house and right throughout, yet is unobtrusive. It has an ambience which takes one back in time to when dinning out was not rushed, relaxing and completely physically and mentally satisfying. Room for improvement - more use of seasonal veg but overall amazingly low prices for such high standards.

This was our first visit and we were surprised to see the place so vibrant on a Monday evening. Immediately we were welcomed to our table by a personable waitress. From there on, the level the service from the young waitresses and the quality of food served could not be faulted. The chef popped his head out to say that he had slightly overcooked a steak so there would be a slight delay, which enhanced the personal service on a busy evening. If you want a pleasant evening and quality of menu and service then come to The Fountain.

Party of 6. We arrived on time and our table was just being prepared for us. We visit the Fountain about 4 times a year and have never been disappointed. The service is excellent and the food equally so. I always finish up having the pot roasted lamb. I really should try something different. Bit disappointed with the treacle tart on this occasion, not sure what happened to it but in fairness I should have sent it back. Going again in a couple of weeks time for another birthday.

The staff at The Fountain are very welcoming and friendly. The service they provide is excellent - there is never a feeling that they are 'hovering' yet they always manage to anticipate when customers are ready for another drink or the next course, I can't rate them highly enough. The food is always cooked and presented to a fantastic standard, the only problem being that it's so hard to make a choice from the menu. This is definitely number one in my top two favourite places to eat.

I had beef Wellington in jus and my wife had chicken in bluecheese sauce, was accompanied with diaphanous potatoes chips and vegetables in separate serving bowls, For desert I had three small pots, raspberry cheesecake chocolate brownie with hot chocolate sauce with ice cream and a creme brulee Everything was served in good time and was delightful. With two glasses of rose prosseco and two pints of thatchers gold cider was 57 quid Which I think is really well priced for the quality you get

The Fountain was busy when we arrived and the people had not left our table, however after waiting a few minutes with a drink, the let us sit at a spare table whilst we waited for ours. The food as usual, was excellent, we had fish for starters and then cod, steak. beef wellington and sea bass which were excellent. We really enjoyed the variety of vegetables and potatoes and the portions were good. The fountain never disappoints when it comes to food. The staff were efficient and friendly in the right way too! Excellent

Went for Sunday lunch with friends. Good choice of starters and mains. Like choice to have three small portions for desert Only downside was one of our party had cheese and biscuits. The selected cheese was weighed to 60 gram portion, there was no more than three dairylea cheese triangles. If you wanted 100 gram of cheese it was another £2.00. The waitress advised they weighed it as cheese was expensive. I have never been anywhere in the UK or abroad where when you have a cheeseboard and the portion is weighed. Quite disappointing

A good restaurant with lovely food and good service. However, if you book for 7pm as we did, then you run the risk of them rebooking your table at 9pm and telling you that you must vacate the table for that time, which is what we were told. The problem is that the Fountain no longer has a lounge area where you could retire to drink your coffee so that someone else can have your table.

Following recommendations by friends we recently visited The Fountain for lunch for the first time. We had already looked at the sample menu on line and when we arrived found we were spoilt for choice. My wife had mackerel and i had tiger prawns with both of us choosing the poached cod with mussels. The accompanying steamed veg & chips/dauphinoise were most enjoyable. An excellent meal with friendly attentive service. We will be back !

Enjoyable double anniversary celebration meal at this popular venue. Online booking was simple. Good table. Great location, welcoming maitre d, comfortable seating, engaging decor, vibrant atmosphere. Fixed price menu represented very good VFM except for disappointingly bland soup starter option. Wine, not the cheapest on the list, was forgettable. Excellent service slipped between puddings and coffees and coffees and the bill otherwise Attentive with the deserved capital A shown. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed the occasion and will recommend and dine here again in the not too distant future.

A drizzly lunchtime in August, yet a packed Fountain and no spare tables! Quietly efficient, courteous and friendly team; excellent value menu and extremely well cooked meal with generous portions. The young staff are already a credit to the owners. Grateful that music very low as so many happy diners chatting away. Am torn between keeping this pub a secret and telling the world! NB there is more parking behind the pub.

The welcome was lovely. Just the right amount of friendliness from the staff. The service was excellent and the food even better. For what you pay the food is the best value I have experienced. The quantity and quality are unbelievably good. One tiny thing against was the table position. It was cold every time the door opened. (which was frequently). So much so that I could not take my coat off. However this didn't spoil the overall experience too much. I would definetly revisit.

Fantastic food, good quality. Great service, we were looked after very well. Only downside was we were given the wrong wine - a prestige rioja rather than a standard which was twice the price. Only discovered this having left the pub and didn't feel we could query it as no doubt we were probably served the prestige wine and it was simply a misunderstanding - we simply asked for "the rioja" but there are 2 on the menu. Aside from that, a lovely evening.

We were made to feel that our 14 month old was unwelcome. On arrival we weren't offered a high chair and we had to ask for one, one was provided but they didn't seem pleased about it. The children's menu seems to be top secret, they don't have it printed, you have to ask the staff and then they tell you what's available! When our order was taken our daughter was again ignored, they didn't ask what we would like to order for her, we had to ask to order for her when they moved on to try to take a wine order. Whilst the children's meals are freshley prepared they really don't seem to want small children in the restaurant. The food was average, the salmon was very dry and some of the veg was dried up as well.

The site recomended booking ahead and I was glad that I did as it is clearly a pretty popular spot with most if not all tables taken. A really lovely touch was my name was printed on the menu that I was encourage to take home with me :-)

Food at The Fountain @ Clent was delicious all three courses and as it was a warm evening even had our dessert outside. Water comes to your table chilled in a bottle. Prosecco is smooth but crisp. The service was outstanding polite pleasant smiley staff who treated you politely and served you like royalty. Really clean beautiful pub but where is the fountain!!!!

We had a lovely time at The Fountain which is a beautiful old pub in a delightful area. The service was excellent and the majority of us enjoyed our meal. I was slightly disappointed with my food but the rest were extremely happy. The chips, vegetables and pommes dauphinoises were delicious and the portions were huge. The meal was extremely good value and I would have very little hesitation in recommending the Fountain to others.

We use the Fountain for that more special dinner. We went last night and it lived up to the reputation it has developed in our family. It is a comfortable, almost cosy, restaurant and the staff are welcoming and attentive. the menu was interesting and satisfied all members of our party. We were unable to resist the dessert. Having chosen The Fountain for a birthday treat we were not disappointed. We both decided on the fillet steak and it is one of the best cooked steaks we have ever eaten. We had thought about going to a 'steak house' but recently they had not lived up to expectation so opted to try somewhere different. So glad we did!

Home cooked delicious food every visit. Pleasant & friendly staff. Tiger prawns in tempura batter with chilli dip are sumptuous combine them with melt in your mouth lamb quarter shoulder (or half if you can manage). If you have room for desert you can tantalise your taste buds with a trio of deserts. Value for my money every time.

Just wanted somewhere for a "mid way" fairly brief meeting over dinner. Very good in all areas. Welcome, food, service, value. Personalised menus a nice touch. Ambience good, although other than the designated table nowhere to have a drink before dinner/wait for other party to arrive. Would definitely recommend/revisit if in the area.

We go to the Fountain at least once a year (always for Fathers Day) & always have a great meal in a cosy restaurant. This year though, I noticed that the food came out differently ie small pots of chips, cauliflower cheese etc your main plate came out as normal however, just portioned seemed smaller for some reason. Wouldn't deter me from going back as quality was still amazing, just not what we quite expected.

Great attention to detail with a superb, albeit somewhat limited lunchtime menu.Staff however are not on top of their game all the time, i.e. steamed veg did not arrive with our meals and when reminded quite amazingly they forgot to bring it again! This was our 4th visit ,so I must like it, but the cracks are beginning to show. Will leave it for a while now as their super offer is starting to fade.
