Chapel Street is loaded with excellent eateries, but few balance first-rate food with straight-up entertainment as perfectly as Tokyo Teppanyaki. At this Japanese joint just two minutes from South Yarra station, it’s about the show as much as the taste. Master chefs theatrically chop, dice, slice, spice and throw food around in front of you (or right at you, if you want to take on the challenge) – and it’s food that you wouldn’t usually think of throwing around. Top quality fresh seafood, imported Japanese specialty ingredients and some of the best beef and other meat you’ll find on any Melbourne menu. Tokyo Teppanyaki offers a great time no matter how often you’ve done it before, especially for special events and functions – they have a private room, if you need, but if it’s your first teppanyaki we would suggest opting for the Emperor set menu (including miso, sushi, sashimi, lobster, scallops, lamb, wagyu, grilled vegetables and dessert, among other things) for the full experience.
Went here to celebrate my birthday. The food and the atmosphere was great and they presented me with a desert as a birthday treat. Only one issue - they forgot to serve our starters (we were on a set menu) but apologised and gave us a round of cocktails instead. Despite that a fun experience.
Unfortunately there was a one hour delay in seating - we had a booking at 7pm and were all there and ready but we had to sit on another table and wait as they were running late. Several huge parties arrived and got shown straight through. Very frustrating!!
We take family and friends regularly, they love it, a great food experience and a great location in South Yarra, Melbourne, everyone enjoys having food thrown at them!
