Indulge in soups at Sydney's Austrian restaurants
Following centuries of influence from nearby cuisine powerhouses like Germany, Hungary and Italy, many meals from Austria are heavy dishes. But Austrians are also known for their love of light soups, and suppe (as it is known in German) can be enjoyed for lunch or as a starter for dinner, and the Austrian restaurants in Sydney serve it all day long. For some traditional soups, head down to Das Bierhaus on Pittwater Road. Frittatensuppe (a beef broth served with strips of rolled pancake) is on offer here, while griessnockerlsuppe (semolina dumplings, again in a beef broth) is another favourite. There's also a soup of the day which changes regularly, so ask staff to find out more.
