More about the restaurant: Gratia Cafe

There are a few places that make doing good their leading purpose. Of course, big multinationals attempt to reassure with superficial CSR efforts, but few truly place the greater good at the heart of what they do. In Sydney’s Surry Hill’s quarter, Gratia Cafe is doing precisely that: putting their profit for purpose mentality into practical use. Find them on Bourke Street and discover how they marry great food with ethical living.

Thinking about making a Gratia Cafe booking?

Gratia Cafe is unlike any eatery you’re likely to have frequented lately. The venture is set up to clear all their debts in five years following their launch in 2015, thereafter Gratia Cafe will split all profits between two not-for-profit enterprises Purechange.org and another organisation, as nominated by their customers. The aim is to do all this while maintaining the very highest standards in sustainability (think locally sourced products bought at fair prices), design and, of course, food. Along Surry Hills’s Bourke Street, Gratia Cafe is starting a very local revolution.

Surry Hill’s Gratia Cafe (from the Latin, gratia meaning grace) is home to a menu which seeks to honour the multicultural diversity that makes Sydney a perennially popular destination for people from all walks of life. Crafted by head chef Rachel Grisewood, the menu focuses on organic and local produce to create an all-day dining experience on Bourke Street. Having battled through some teething issues in the early stages of their project (plumbing in Surry Hills is not for the faint hearted) Gratia is ready to start winning customers and doing good.
