As their name may suggest, Katsu King are masters when it comes to the art of cooking up the perfect katsu curry. Katsu is the oldest Japanese-French fusion food, consisting of meat cutlets covered in French breadcrumbs and at Katsu King, you can experience some of the most authentic katsu that Melbourne has to offer, from the katsu roll to the katsu don (a street-style rice bowl with deep-fried cutlet, special shoyu, sake, vegetables and a half boiled egg on top). Other delicious choices include burgers and curry sets, and you’ll find a selection of homemade sauces to choose from. For a Japanese fusion feast in South Yarra, book a table and head on over to Katsu King on Toorak Road.
Since we are 40mins away from Toorak, we called Katsu King to confirm our reservation via Quandoo. We were surprised when the person we spoke to informed us that they don’t accept reservations; only walk-in. We ordered the Katsu Don set, and the Spicy Ramen Katsu set. The spicy ramen was average but still not bad as we still enjoyed it. The katsu was really nice, and though it was deep-fried, the meet was still tender and not so dry. Overall the food was great, and even my 4year old son enjoyed it.
