Radical mood-enhancement is on the menu at Northbridge’s Layup, a cafe up on Brisbane Street that offers food and drink to suit any way you might be feeling – sweet, salty, sour, hot or cold. This stylish Perth cafe and restaurant serves up amazing breakfasts, incredible coffee, home-baked bread and delicious brunches, and they provide friendly service that’s attentive but not overbearing. Despite the name, there’s no basketball theme here – just a modern, light-filled dining space that encourages great conversations and a feeling of tranquility.
For Perth’s coffee aficionados, Layup is an absolute favourite. From cold brews for hot days to a cappuccino to-go before work, the coffee that you’ll find at this Northbridge hangout is the cream of the crop. Stop in and unwind with the brew of your choice, or take a gander at Layup’s lengthy food menu if you’re feeling hungry for some Australian cafe classics. Found on Brisbane Street just a short walk from Hyde Park and Perth Oval, Layup is a cafe that you’ll want to keep on your radar.
The menu is as changeable as the Perth weather isn’t, normally, but when you’re craving something more than the Fremantle Doctor on a hot summer’s day come in for some sweet crepes with hazelnut praline, house-made chocolate sauce and coconut ice cream. And on those wet winter days there’s nothing like perfect poached eggs with grilled leg ham and broccolini on a freshly baked English muffin to get you into morning gear. The Layup Works burger is a perennial favourite, best washed down with old school New York sodas (creme, black cherry, grape) from Boylan Bottling Co., or BYO booze and let the Layup crew do the heavy lifting. Reserve ahead to ensure a table at this fantastic Northbridge cafe!
Cannot fault the service. Staff were so friendly and efficient. Great coffee and delicious food. Highly recommended! Give it a try next time you’re in the city.
Fantastic spot. Staff are great and food wonderful. Reservations on weekends are a good idea as this place is so popular it gets packed early
A must try, hidden gem! The coffee at Layup is good, right temperature & smooth
My all time fav place for brunch and coffee is yum!
Went for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Staff were very attentive and food was good. I had the sautéed mushroom with a soy matcha latte. The mushrooms and matcha were a little on the bland side for my taste. A sugar block is provided which you can help to your matcha latte if you prefer it to be sweeter. The cauliflower purée was really lovely in texture and flavour and made up for the lack of flavour in the mushrooms. Slow cooked eggs were cooked beatifully as well.
I cannot fault Layup on anything. Delicious menu with a range of choices using high quality ingredients. Their hot cakes are THE BEST in town. Service is fantastic, the staff are always on the ball. After many visits, I've never left disappointed!
Poached eggs were hard boiled, not soft or runny. After having several coffees & food we were promptly given our bill then told we had to leave as our table was needed for the next reservation. We had driven over an hour to go to Layup as we had read great reviews and didn’t appreciate being informed to leave.
Layup was such a fantastic place with delicious food and they had a great variety on their menu. Would definitely recommend going there for brunch.
We went for breakfast on a Saturday, great food and great atmosphere and really spacious! The only downside was we waited nearly an hour for breakfast to be served. You can show up without a reservation, but it gets busy so definitely recommend booking a table!
Food and beverages was creative, delicious and reasonably priced. Service was smooth and on point - all Staff seemed to work together seamlessly as a collective. Only downsides were the flies and poor air-conditioning. Will definitely be back again but when the weather is cooler.
