Osti finds itself along the Prahran stretch of Chapel Street, on the corner with Anchor Place, and it’s from here that this quietly refined European Italian-esque cafe, bar and restaurant humbly plies its delicious trade. Spread over three flexible dining spaces, Osti is a perfect spot in this part of Melbourne for a private booking, but it’s the daily business of good food, coffee and drink that Osti excels at, gently leavening their weekly a la carte offering with focused, themed culinary nights offering fixed price set dining experiences.

Breakfast at Osti runs the gamut of classics when it comes to a traditional Melbourne daybreak feed: eggs benny, Spanish omelettes, porridge and the like, but special items like the breakfast piadina with truffled scrambled eggs, prosciutto and a tomato salsa that really shine through. Even the house baked beans are something a little different, prepared in a tomato sugo and served with pancetta, poached eggs and gremolata. Need we praise the coffee? No, it’s reliably one of the better cups in Prahran.

Dinner can get rather luxurious at Osti, with the kitchen specialising in European and Mediterranean dishes that are best experienced at one of Osti’s dining event nights. Book a spot at Osti’s Chapel Street premises for Wednesday’s porchetta and pinot night, the Thursday steak and shiraz, or any night from Tuesday through to Saturday for the Aperitivo At Osti event, with a half-price bar menu, cheap imported beers and selected red and white wines. If we must offer a specific recommendation to melbourne diners it would be the share plate tuna carpaccio with saffron mayo or the mouthwatering, slow-braised Roman-style lamb shoulder with kipfler potatoes, caper berries and rosemary!
