More about the restaurant: Penny Young
Penny Young in Moonee Ponds is arguably one of the coolest venues in Melbourne. Doubling as a bottle shop, bar and beer hall, this is the place to head when you’re in the mood for delicious food, an array of drinks and a mighty fine time. If you enter from the brick-fronted bottle store, you’ll be floored by the 350-plus beer selection and rare wines, of which most are available for sampling in the bar – and the bar, in our opinion, is where the magic of Penny Young really happens. Rustic and trendy with exposed brick and wooden furnishings, you’ll find a whole host of tipples to be sipped and Italian-style bar snacks to be nibbled on here. All served by talented, charming and knowledgeable staff. If all this has you curious – which it should – book a table and head to Young Street in Moonee Ponds. You won’t be disappointed.

Thinking about making a Penny Young booking?
In terms of the food offering at Penny Young Melbourne, you can either choose to snack on antipasti platters as you sip on your preferred cocktail, beer or wine. Alternatively, order up one or two of the freshly made pizzas that are cooked to absolute perfection. Although, if you’re anything like us, you’ll want to tuck into as much as possible at Penny Young. We love feasting on the cured meats, marinated vegetables and cheeses to start, before ordering the broccoli e salsiccia pizza that’s topped with broccoli, Italian pork sausage, garlic and fior di latte or the rustica loaded up with San Marzano tomatoes, fior di latte, eggplant, peppers, artichokes and oregano. Delicioso, don’t you think?
The drinks selection at Penny Young in Moonee Ponds is where this cosy bar and eatery really comes into its own, though. Cocktail fans should keep an eye out for the notorious f.i.g made with vanilla vodka, esprit de figues, sherry, rhubarb bitters and fig syrup and the not-so old fashioned made with Scotch, Chambord, raspberry syrup, Angostura and orange bitters. Serving sharing cocktails, beers, wines and everything else your heart could ever desire, Penny Young is for lovers of fine Italian food and brilliant beverages. Located on Young Street in Moonee Ponds, this is one Melbourne venue you don’t want to miss.
