Spicy meat dishes are the order of the day at Ethiopian restaurants in Melbourne
Melbourne's Ethiopian restaurants are a great alternative to Indian curry houses for lovers of spicy cuisine. The food you'll find there tends to be based on a special spice mix known as berbere (featuring fenugreek, turmeric, garlic, chilli, ginger and basil, among other things). Meats like chicken, beef, kangaroo and seafood are then cooked in these spices before being presented on a platter with some injera (a kind of spongy flatbread made from teff flour). And why not do as the Ethiopians do, and try eating your dish with your hands – it’s surprisingly fun!
