Serving the good people of Melbourne’s Richmond with quality food and refreshment from early in the morning to well past your bedtime, Academy Kitchen & Bar is a catch-all for all your culinary cravings. Opening up its Bridge Road premises at 7am during the week, Academy offers a fine selection of bakery goods, sweet and savoury breakfast staples, before rolling over into lunch. There, we’re talking typically modern Australian – a blend of Pacific Rim, Asian, and European colonial influences – a classic cheeseburger, The Richmond Reuben sandwich, chilli caramel duck ribs, and crispy pigs’ ears and kohlrabi lettuce wraps with hot sauce. For dinner the sesame-crusted salmon with Asian slaw, ruby grapefruit and ponzu or the goats’ cheese tortellini with ratatouille and tomato bubbles are particular highlights. Hedged by a fearsomely good bar packed with old world and Australasian wines, some very crafty beers and ciders, Academy is a lesson in good gastronomy.
