My favourite Japanese restaurant in Melbourne. Consistently great and not expensive with excellent service. Highly recommend it for special occasions. Recommend the Nasu Dengaku, salmon sashimi, black miso cod

Fantastic food as always. Sushi and sashimi to die for followed by a beef and chicken dish which were both very tender and flavoursome. Can’t wait for our next visit.

Great food, interesting men, really enjoyable, however the service was a bit patchy but once we had ordered the food came quickly. Very popular and buzzy.

Great food, loved the sashimi and sushi platter. Service was good even though the restaurant was busy. A little bit noisy with the new layout.

Excellent food, great service and added bonus of BYO every day of the week. Great restaurant for couples, small groups and menu diverse enough to take the famil. First class restaurant

The service was excellent and the food delicious. Also, most importantly, my extreme allergy to garlic was acknowledged upon arrival which was a plus for me. Thank you!

Ayame Restaurant in Malvern on Glenferrie Road does perfect nigiri sushi, perfect unagi eel which has to be cooked just the right way for nigiri and they get it perfect! They have tuna and spicy tuna sushi, not cooked just the way it’s supposed to be! They do the best edamame, just the right amount of salt, just perfectly lightly fried gyoza, proper miso, white ginger! And heaps of wasabi with each dish - not stingy like some places. And it’s perfectly hot wasabi. We are sooo glad to have found this restaurant! It can be packed on a Saturday night so it’s best to book a table.

We had not been to this restaurant for at least 12 months and the menu had changed somewhat with addition of a Tapas style menu as well as their standard. Food was sensational as usual with the standout being the mixed platter of sashimi, california rolls etc. Service was very friendly but a little slow to start as they were very busy. Overall though we had a very positive experience again and our friends who joined us and had not eaten there loved it.

It's a while since I had visited Ayame and there were many changes which suggested that there has been a change in ownership. There was a different 'feel' about the place and the food, whilst pleasant, wasn't at the previous high standard.

Our favourite Japanese restaurant! California rolls are to die for, everything super fresh and super tasty. Can’t get enough of those chicken gyoza with the perfect amount of crispyness!

Food was good. We tried the sashimi, teriyaki chicken and pork tonkatsu and all were excellent. The service was speedy, time from ordering to food arriving was very prompt! Bowl of steamed rice for $3 is also excellent value! I would recommend Ayame for a quick and satisfying Japanese meal.

We have visited this restaurant four times in the past two years and always found the service and food to be very good. Choose carefully from the menu. Seafood is a good choice. BYO Wine with corkage @ $7-00 is reasonable. Family groups usually leave by 8PM so if you are looking for a quieter experience later might be best.

The traditional Japanese dishes such as sushi and Gyoza were really good but most of the main courses bore no resemblance to Japanese food and were awful. Service was slow

Delicious food! Very happy. The sashimi was fresh and lovely, as was the steak and the tofu. I would certainly come here again, although it is on the expensive side.
