Italian cafe culture is alive and well in the southern Sydney suburb if Menai thanks to the presence of Cafe Vostro at the Menai Marketplace, best accessed from Allison Crescent. cafe Vostro was founded in 2011 and, after undergoing an extensive refit in 2015, it now offers it’s usual steady supply of fantastic cafe and light cafe fare supplemented by an expanded lunch and dinner restaurant menu emphasising deliciously fresh dishes drawn from Italian cuisine. Breakfast is, thankfully, an all-day affair here, with the big breakfast and its vegetarian counterpart putting paid the largest appetites. Open melt sandwiches, gourmet burgers, salads and a generous kids’ menu keep locals in lunch, but it’s the classically-structured Italian dinner menu that’s proving a real hit, best enjoyed with Italian beer or wine from Vostro’s extensive drinks list. That said, if you simply want a coffee and something sweet, go for the cafe’s interesting selection of paleo desserts.
