More about the restaurant: Grand Lafayette
Grand Lafayette Prahran is yet another example of why Melbourne has the best dining scene in the country. Doubling up as a cafe that serves internationally-inspired brunch and lunch dishes by day, and a buzzing restaurant that offers Japanese fusion by night, this Clifton Street space ticks all the right boxes for us. The space itself is chic and vibrant, with art, wooden furnishings and plants adorning the dining room – which all match the beautifully presented Japanese and Asian fusion dishes perfectly. This colourful, lively spot is one of our favourite places to head in Prahran for both brunch and dinner. We truly can’t recommend a visit to Grand Lafayette more, but bookings are essential.

So, what’s the story with the menu at Grand Lafayette Prahran then? During the day, you’ll find an all-day breakfast and brunch offering packed with Australian cafe classics with a distinctive Asian fusion influence. We love the chicken and waffles topped with seasonal berries, melted cheese, maple, almonds and berry coulis; wasabi scrambled eggs served on a black rice patty with potatoes, mint and tomato salsa and the classic smashed avocado with pomegranate, cherry tomatoes and a poached egg. You’ll also want to keep an eye out for the Grand Lafayette gua bao – we recommend the beef teriyaki or confit pork and crispy eggplant, but they’re all delicious!
For those dining in the evening, Grand Lafayette Melbourne will leave you all kinds of delighted, that’s for sure. A unique blend of Japanese fusion, start things off with the yuzu kingfish with wasabi salt; salmon tataki with jalapeno mayo and sweet potato chips and the baked scallops served with garlic and chilli. Then, a must-try is the freakshii, a unique and freaky sushi roll with fillings that include crispy chicken; soft shell crab and panko prawn. You’ll also find Japanese mains, gua baos and tapas dishes that everyone will love. Located along Clifton Street in Prahran, Grand Lafayette is a Melbourne favourite that we can’t get enough of. So book a table and treat yourself!
