And with local pub and restaurant the Gumdale Tavern sitting pretty and convenient on the corner of Tilley Road and New Cleveland Road, the place is often packed with diners coming in from further afield as well as Gumdale locals. It’s a family-friendly venue, with a kid’s play area next to booth seating so the grown-ups can kick back while keeping an eye on the youngsters, and the evenings see a range of events like the sit-down comedy club – reservations are essential for this one!

As for the food, the Gumdale Tavern’s kitchen is crewed by true devotees of quality cuisine. The pantry is stocked with a cornucopia of Queensland and Australia’s finest, going into seasonal menus packed with firm favourites and unusual surprises. LIghter options include the tea-smoked chicken salad, there’s the housemade meatballs with fettuccine in a Napoli sauce, smoky BBQ beef ribs, slow-cooked Guinness pie, oven-baked barramundi, premium steaks and even more for lunch. Of course, there’s also as packed a bar as you’d expect from a top Brisbane suburban pub, covering all the bases. While the Gumdale Tavern is a spacious venue, it’s rare to find it less than buzzing so, to guarantee a table, making a reservation beforehand is advised.
