In Marrickville we are spoiled for great Vietnamese restaurants so when a new supposedly extra special place called Hello Auntie opened up we thought we'd give it a go. To begin we tried to book on the weekend but were told we'd need to book at least a week in advance. Fair enough we thought it's a new place and seems to have created some what of a buzz in the neighbourhood. We ended up booking mid week, no dramas. It was a 6.30pm sitting and we were seated at a table less than a foot from a couple who were obviously on a first date. We could hear every word they said, I actually felt like joining in the chat as it felt like we were at the same table and they seemed like a cute couple. Our first dish came out and it was crispy skinned chicken. It was moist and the skin was deliciously crispy. The second dish came out about 30mins after we finished the first and was the duck pancake. Over all a pretty good version of what most of the other Vietnamese restaurants do, perhaps a hint doughy but over all ok. Last of all and after waiting another 30mins came the twice cooked pork belly. We we really excited about this one as a few reviews we'd had read really talked it up. My fist bite of a 1cm cube piece of pork nearly broke a tooth. The only crackling from this dish would be coming from my teeth shattering. To the wait staffs credit they offered us a free desert to compensate for the pork but by the time the offer came we just wanted to go home. Over all the service was excellent but the food was over priced, the cold bare brick, concrete floors and hard chairs , while good for Hipsters not ideal for the over 30's crowd.
Great service and modern vietnamese cuisine. I loved the whatchamacallit mocktail and the banh khot. I would highly recommend making a booking to dine as it was quite busy.
Food was fabulous; service very attentive, friendly and speedy; but sadly, the music far too loud - 3 of us dining together and we asked 3 different waiter staff on 3 occasions to please turn down the sound volume, which they did, but within 15 mins or so the volume was blasting again. Most people I know go to dinner with friends to enjoy conversation with them, not to compete with loud music. When will restauranteurs realise that the ambient noise of modern (hard surface) restaurants, plus conversation noise of diners does not need to be added to with loud music.... Please let us converse without having to massively raise voices, or miss hearing what others say, please!
Great food and atmosphere. Portion sizes could be a but bigger but still delicious. Favourite dish was the school prawns but everything looked very tasty
Overall a great time at Hello Auntie, delicious food and they really took the time to help us with our order and made sure that we were happy.
fantastic food and friendly service one more. I love it that there are deserts unusual for restaurants like this and that they are so unusual
The food was absolutely delicious, service was impeccable. Only downside was we had to vacate by 7.45pm which we weren't informed of until 20min prior.
I took my 2 Vietnamese friends they were very impressed and loved the food .quick and friendly service been 4 times already will go again
Normally go for big and proper meal but just wanted to have a quick and simple dinner. Had the pho and rice between the two of us. Was great for a chilly Sunday night.
We love this place, the food is amazing. The only issue is that both times we've gone the staff have forgotten our drinks. Food comes out and still no drinks. We have had to ask and then the drinks come out. Aside from that it's great
We had a great night at Hello Auntie. The food was interesting and very tasty, the service was attentive and prices were a little higher than other marrickville restaurants, but well worth it for a special night out.
Good took a long time to come out and when it did it was not hot enough. We found out later why this happened and desserts were offered in consolation.
The food was delicious, interesting and beautifully presented. The restaurant was busy but not too loud, and the service was great. Definitely a place I would return to.
Excellent food - excellent service - what more needs to be said? Hostess [Chef's partner] was very informative about the food - we will be back soon
Our first visit to Hello Auntie was on a Thursday night and it was great. Service excellent and food excellent. Our second visit we went on a Wednesday night, which is the only BYO night. We couldn't get a booking till 8.30pm, which is fine for us. But we ordered with the intention of ordering more if needed (which we discussed with the waitress). They placed the food on our table and instantly we decided to order more, but was told the kitchen was closed. We were then rushed through the whole experience. We all thought our food wasn't as good as the first experience. Maybe it was the rushing that made us think that, but overall the second visit was average.
Hello Auntie is a fabulous restaurant, to eat in and to look at. The menu is not your usual Vietnamese menu, rather Vietnamese with a twist. The food is fresh and so delicious, especially anything with duck!! The Staff are wonderful, very attentive and so polite. They were mindful of our dishes taking a little too long so they gave us a starter on the house, which I thought was an example of excellent customer service. The service is usually fast, but as I saw this time round, they really know how to keep their customers happy. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. I love it!!!
We'll definitely be back for the friendly service, awesome flavours and all the other dishes that we didn't get to try! The banh xeo is impressive! :D~
Food and service were very good but unfortunately we had to wait for 20 minutes to be taken to our seats. We had a booking for 8.30pm and are told if we are late for more than 15 minutes than the booking is void..I think that is fair but that should work in both ways...to have to wait for maybe 10minutes, well that's okay but to have to wait for 20minutes, that is just not right.. We were offered a free desert for the inconvenience, that was nice. Thanks for your interest.
great food, quite authentic Vietnamese, although the portions were quite small for the price and low on carbs. Nice, friendly service. Nice modern industrial decor. Wine list a little on the pricey side for the quality. Great to have Vietnamese beer on the menu
Loved the food, definitely a place I would come back to try the other menu items! Service was a bit slow for a sunday night but overall great experience.
We had such a nice night, Great food, amazing service, and a really good atmosphere. We will definitely go back! recommend trying the Vietnamese margarita, beautiful!
The ban xeoh here is seriously the best! Very fresh and reminds me of my time in Vietnam. Great service too and all around a great night with friends :)
Food was outstanding, a terrific and overdue welcome to the Marrickville dining scene at night! Staff were super friendly. This place is going to be hugely successful.
Fantastic food and atmosphere. Staff always friendly and helpful. A little long sometimes on the wait for drinks and meals, but well worth the wait.
Delicious food, good service even though busy. Lively atmosphere. Prawn and coconut pancakes are a standout. Crunchy chicken wings and fresh and tasty spring rolls and resh rolls. Booking is a good idea as usually busy.
We had a lovely evening and as always, the food was superb! We love introducing friends to Hello Auntie, so they can also enjoy the experience.
Awesome food. Great service! We can't go past the Crispy Skin Chicken and the Coconut and Tumeric Pikelets are out of this world. A taste sensation!
Great fresh food. Friendly, funky but honest & not pretentious service. This place is a godsend in the inner west. I'm never queuing for a bad overpriced burger ever again...
The food here is amazing....a unique setting for great Vietnamese food... Tried the desserts this time and they are worth leaving room for. Will definitely be back!!
Always good food. Good service and great environment - new vegetarian menu is delicious and their ice coffee is a force to be reckoned with
Food was good and it's different from the usual vietnamese menu, service was a little bit hit and miss, very friendly but sometimes a bit slow.
Hello Auntie has a great atmosphere, really amazing food and drinks and really friendly staff! I always enjoy coming back to this great restaurant! :)
Fresh vibrant tasty food, great decor and attentive staff. My only concern was the 300% mark up on the wine. At least have the option of byp wine and charge corkage.
Being a Wednesday night, we could bring our own wine which compliments the great food. The pikelets are still the best dish in the menu!
really amazing food and service and vibe. best vietnamese restaurant on that whole street, and good drinks too. go there all the time now! xx
Beautiful Vietnamese food with a modern twist. The beef pho was delicious. The service was attentive and efficient on a busy night.
Fabulous food really clever great technique fusing Italian skills with Vietnamese flavours. The apple desert is a must try with everything you could want in a desert.
Great service, amazing food. Have a separate vegetarian menu for those who need it. Staff are very accomodating. Been there a few times and not bored yet!
Loved the food, great combination of flavors, extensive menu options and a whole menu just for vegetarians and vegans. Food is delicious and very filling! Can't wait for the next visit. Highly recommended.
Food is good and services are great. The time waiting for food did take longer than we anticipated. In summary it is still an enjoyable experience.
Great service - good food and excellent value . What more can you want ? The atmosphere is eclectic and buzzy just what I enjoy
We have eaten here on a number of occasions. As always, the food, service and atmosphere is always amazing. The Banh Khot is a must try.
The food is delicious and well priced for an upmarket Vietnamese restaurant. Only negative is fact you cannot take in your own wine. Their wine list is quite limited.
Underwhelmed. After all of the hype, I was expecting more. Given all of the great Vietnamese restaurants in Marrickville, I found this a little bland and meh in comparison
great food and service and hope to go again soon
That place is Amazing! I have gone there a number of times and the place just gets better and better. The Service is outstanding and the food well presented and a taste sensation.
Hello Auntie is amazing. Every single aspect from their service, food & price are on point. This restaurant is easily the best Vietnamese food in Sydney if not the state. I went there the same week it opened and again tonight. I definitely becoming a regular.
Great vibe and service. Food modern Asian was nice but more $ then your standard restaurant Definite plus the marrikvile up and coming dinner experience.
Great service, lovely food, cool vibe. Unfortunately we were placed next to the door on a cold night for a 6:30 booking - didn't complain so only myself to blame . Had a really fantastic night. It's not a cheap night out tho esp if you have a cocktail or wine, so expect more cost for more vibe and interesting choices than some of the Pho places nearby. Would THOROUGHLY recommend.
Good was amazing, full of flavour and great presentation. Reasonably priced. Pleasant atmosphere and styling. Overall we had an enjoyable evening and we would recommend this restaurant to friends and family
