More about the restaurant: Hobart Oyster House
Though the name might not be so familiar, Hobart Oyster House has in some way been a fixture in the Tasmanian capital’s culinary landscape since 1970, the year owner Mark Burnell began his life as an oyster farmer, supplying fresh Great Bay and Bruny Island oysters to top restaurants. With the 2014 opening of Hobart Oyster House proper, a diminutive venue down Barrack Street in the CBD, Mark can now cut out the middleman, offering the traditionally luxury staple to diners at cut-rate prices. Take a half or whole dozen live or shucked and served au naturel, spicy with habanero and lemon, rocket and rice wine vinegar, with wasabi, soy and ginger or with vintage cheddar and fresh raspberry!
