Il Bolognese is only the most recent manifestation of the incredibly rich, incredibly long history of a family of restaurateurs that were, back in the bel paese, the owners of some of Rome’s most prestigious eateries and here in Sydney the proprietors of the some of this southern city’s most prestigious restaurants. The symmetry is telling, and the legacy continues at Il Bolognese thanks to the stewardship of owner and head chef Celso Grati (and now his daughter Isabella). Il Bolognese continues to enthrall the latest generation of Mediterranean with its inimitably authentic take on the diverse regional dishes of Italy, offering a renowned a la carte menu and a sought-after private function catering service ideal for big celebrations, family gatherings, weddings and more. You can find Il Bolognese along Pittwater Road in Gladesville, but remember – bookings are essential for this very popular north Sydney Italian restaurant.
Overpriced, poor service. We waited 45 minutes for our meal only to be told they had run out of one of them and got one of the other orders wrong. A tiny bowl with a small handful (literally) of rocket leaves and 3 small scrapings of parmesan constituted a $10+ salad. Very disappointing, we won't be back.
Clean with pleasant staff. Generous servings of authentic Italian food. Standouts are always the veal Emiliana and veal soltinbocca. Healthy platters of mixed vegetables come with all meat mains. It's a little on the pricey side but that won't stop you coming back.
Authentic Italian food, we loved the way the spaghetti and pizza were made. Even the atmosphere and the way they calculated your bill were so Italian. Just loved it, will definitely come back for more.
