Johnny Fontane's was incredible! The cocktails were out of this world (try "the Flamingo" if you have a sweet tooth), the staff were friendly and attentive, and the Chicago Deep Dish lived up to the hype and then some. Next time, I'll by trying a cigar on their upstairs deck.
Great food and fun atmosphere. Service was a little slow and inattentive, but overall a great place for deep dish pizza. . . . .
Service was above and beyond. Food was excellent and really well priced. Will definitely be back to take advantage of the cigar selection. Would strongly recommend the Eastern Promise.
Unfortunately disappointed at food and service. Was really looking forward to trying this place out with all the write ups, so would not be going back!
Johhny fontanes was amazing! From the lovely maitre d to the awesomely friendly bar staff and waiters. The deep dish pizza is super authentic and the cocktails are very unique and wickedly delicious. And it's reasonably priced to boot!
The restaurant itself is a really nice space, hip hop music blared over the speakers, it's a very loud place, get ready to shout at your dinner pals. The service is somewhat lacking in that the waiters aren't that attentive, but when you do get their attention the food is awesome! Great deep dish pizza and extensive cocktail list.
We had a fun time and enjoyed trying Chicago style pizza and a range of cocktails. Chris took great care of us too. Would happily return.
Chris was great! Made us feel very welcome. The service was great and food was amazing, could not finish the pizza but excited about the leftovers! Thanks to Chris and the team for making our night!
Suggest diners are informed that the deep dish pizza can take 30-40mins to make. The pizza is excellent and despite its size is not overly heavy and tastes great!
As soon as we found out about this place we decided to go. Unfortunately on our first visit no table was available; we then booked online through Quandoo a couple of days in advance and I highly recommend to do so because it gets packed, particularly in the weekends! We were welcomed by very friendly staff and started ordering the drinks. They have a small selection of some excellent imported beers and I got a great Scottish oak aged one, by the name of Innis & Gunn. After a light antipasto of polenta chips served with a pesto aioli we ordered the most classic of deep-dish pizzas, The Capone (pork and veal meatballs, mozzarella, tomato and rocket on top), followed by a coffee panna cotta for dessert. Now, if you're not familiar with deep-dish pizza, you should know that it's quite far from the classic Italian recipe - which for me is the ONLY pizza, but I can still endorse this one. Deep-dish version was invented in Chicago in the 1940s and is cooked in a pan which gives it a high edge and a thick look, and it's filled with abundant cheese and a chunky tomato sauce. One pizza like this is normally enough for 2/3 people and Johnny Fontane's' is delicious! The panna cotta was served with a touch of whipped cream, chocolate pudding, whole hazelnuts and a base of caramel and it was excellent too. Maybe a bit too sweet for my taste but by talking to the waiter I found out that the chef was actually trying a few variation (in this case it was the addition of caramel), so I sent my feedback. The venue is really nice with many references to The Godfather: the name of course, but also a horse head mounted on the wall, a Genco Olive Oil mural at the entrance and the suggestion "Just remember to leave the gun." under the "Dolci" section of the menu. Overall we were extremely satisfied by the dinner and we'll definitely go back. It's also very reasonably priced making it a cheap eat for Sydney!
Delicious food and drinks, awesome staff and a cool venue. The Sydney take on Chicago deep dish pizzas are better than the originals if you ask me. The neighbourhood is a cool spot too.
Best pizza just like being in Chicago . Can't wait to get back to try the other pizzas . Definitely recommend the place . :)
I'm a big foodie and I have never had a deep style pan pizza before. Was interesting in a positive way. Would definitely try again.
Very friendly, helpful staff. Food was great - cocktails and share plates were super quick. A bit of a wait on the deep dish pizza (25-30mins) without the restaurant being full, but I'd imagine this is because of how long it takes to cook. So as long as you have nibbles and drinks you won't notice.
Great food and great service. Staff were happy to accommodate my dietary needs and took responsibility to rectify the situation when a mistake was made. Will definitely be returning and recommending this gem!
we had the Booking for 6:30. We were 30 mins late. They were very flexible. Service was great and food was to die for. Defin worth going
J.Fs is great. Fantastic service, the deep dish was unreal and the happy hour specials are great. I'd definitely come back here, and in fact I am
