Lynford D’Souza and Harish Chander met in the heat of a kitchen way back when, some 25 years ago. They worked in restaurants in Sydney, and moved up the coast to Manly, then Mona Vale and finally to Tugun, where they now run the Kahani Indian Restaurant on Gold Coast Highway, just over the border into Queensland. They offer an Indian menu that is filled with curry classics: from mild dishes like korma, through the likes of rogan josh and aloo mattar to fiery favourites like vindaloo and the Goan speciality of xhacuti, cooked with roasted coconut and whole spices. Kahani has become one of the most popular restaurants on the Gold Coast, so they can get busy on occasion, but if you book a table in advance, you’re guaranteed a seat at the table.
