Established in 2001, Okra is a southeast Asian restaurant that offers sophisticated fusion dishes that represent the freshest flavours from across Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. Famous for their Sunday Malaysian Hawker Feast that attracts diners from far and wide, Okra is something of a legend across Melbourne and continues to stun diners with their innovative and delicious dishes and beautiful setting. Open every day of the week except for Monday, Okra is ideally located along Camberwell Road in Hawthorn East close to several different tram connections and is the perfect place to dine with a group – the portions are large and perfect for sharing, and there’s plenty of seating and even a function room for private parties. For dinner, we recommend the pla choo chee, crispy salmon with red curry, basil, lemongrass and kaffir lime, and for dessert, you can’t go wrong with the lychee with ice cream, the sticky black rice and the homemade mango mousse. Food was good and service as well despite the restaurant was packed due to Christmas gatherings. Unfortunately it was too noisy due to big groups.
The food was rated highly by my friends and myself. Service and hospitality were also very good and I was congratulated for selecting the venue.
Food was good - however a menu was first brought to me and then when our Guests from Hong Kong arrived, I was given a special guests menu ... what does this mean ? Does it mean that ordinary people get a different menu to choose from ?? I found that rather strange and would have to question why this is done. the service was good and pleasant and food was very nice.
Interesting and tasty food. Service was friendly and efficient. The place was a bit packed and got very noisy. Prices were reasonable. Well worth a visit.
Okra never disappoints. We have been going to Okra for years now and our recent visit confirmed that it is always a good choice. The service is excellent and the dishes are always delicious.
Nice ambience but the food was Luke warm. Pity. Next time I would ask for it to be reheated. But we were with other people so didn't want to make an issue of it.
The atmosphere was great - lively and cozy. Most of the staff were very nice and friendly and were super helpful. Food was also delightful.
Not nearly as good as it used to be. Perhaps there is a new chef? The service however was excellent although there were not many people there.
Lovely venue for weekend brunch feasting on malaysian hawker food in the camberwell area. Highly recommend the fish head noodle soup and popiah our favourite!
Ordered the $50 banquet for our large group. Most of the courses were served on small plates with very small servings. Apart from a few quite tasty dishes the rest was bland and minute serving sizes for the price paid. Fairly underwhelming
