This one, in South Yarra, can be found just off Toorak Road and is open seven days for dining that is fun and heartwarming. Inspired by the Italian tradition of enjoying food with friends and family, Pinocchio places its emphasis on menus that can be shared, using the freshest of fresh ingredients as well as recipes unique to various regions of Italy. The main menu is packed with antipasti, pasta and prime cuts of meat, while the pizza can be customised with a tomato or cheese base, then stretched up to a metre long – almost as long as Pinocchio’s nose after one too many fibs! For Pinocchio to have three locations, it must be doing something right. This South Yarra branch is decked out stylishly but with simplicity in mind, and the service is always top draw. We weren’t lying when we said the food at Pinocchio’s South Yarra restaurant is ideal for sharing – there’s antipasti in the form of bufala mozzarella and calamari fritti, classic pasta plates and some extremely juicy cuts of prime meat, too. As good as all that is, though, for us, the main attraction at Pinocchio is the pizza. There are traditional toppings to suit all tastes and then diners can customise, depending on how doughy everyone is feeling: there’s regular, half metre, or full metre.
