As you head north from Sydney by road along the Pacific Highway or by train you pass through the suburb of Gordon. When you do, stop (or pull the emergency brake), park your car down Wade Lane (or leg it over the tracks) and find Porto Azzurro, a family-run Italian restaurant that’s a favourite among locals and lovers of good Italian food citywide. True to Italian tradition,Port Azzurro’s experienced chefs keeps things simple, rustic and fresh, bringing you a classically structured menu throughout the week and original chef’s creations on the weekend. Just for example, at the time of writing, Porto Azzurro were putting on a special selection of prawn and scallops cooked on rosemary skewers with rocket and chilli aioli, rigatoni prosciutto with sundried tomato, walnut oil and Parmesan, chicken and tarragon ravioli in a tomato passata with fresh basil, and a delicious pared back pizza with tomato, fior di latte, anchovies and olives.
